I prefer Floridas, but I never buy them because they're too big. I hate leftover avocados.
The Haas - little black ones. Nuttier taste. Seem to ripen up faster if you have to buy them hard. Perfect size.
Hothouse - larger green ones. Acceptable taste. Take ages to ripen - like a week, not a year. Kind of too large for a single serving.

Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.
We only have one kind in the store. They are haas I think, smallish.

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
I like the Haas. They're creamier and denser to me. The Florida kind are sort of watery.
All we have around here are the Black ones, they do just fine!

Only get the haas ones in UK.
Here the most common varieties are Hass and Fuerte (the watery green ones). Hass are much the best, ours are large. We have a male Hass and a female Fuerte in the back yard, along with pomegranates, oranges, apricots, figs, etc. As each season comes we gorge ourselves and supply our neighbors. Sometimes I'm motivated to dry the apricots and peaches for winter.
