    I prefer Floridas, but I never buy them because they're too big. I hate leftover avocados.

    The Haas - little black ones. Nuttier taste. Seem to ripen up faster if you have to buy them hard. Perfect size.

    Hothouse - larger green ones. Acceptable taste. Take ages to ripen - like a week, not a year. Kind of too large for a single serving.

    I like the Haas. They're creamier and denser to me. The Florida kind are sort of watery.

    I live in FL... I can get FL avos pretty much free during season, I still won't eat the damned things.

    They are a LIE!
    A watery nasty LIE!

    Also, they aren't creamy at all... and they make baby jesus cry.


    I'll pay for a proper black Alligator pear any day of the week.
    Fortunately I can still get those pretty cheep too.



    *caveat: ONE thing that FL avos might do better is a classic FL grapefruit and avocado salad because they hold their shape, don't go all slimy, and they watery texture works in THAT context. I always make it with shrimp... and it's the ONLY use for those avos. But I'll still use Haas if they are on hand and arrange the ingredients neatly on butterhead lettuce leaves so the softer avo pieces don't squish.
