My focus is on nutrition, in the sense of all of the vitamins and minerals we need to make all the hormones our bodies need to run. Getting enough calories is our current age of plenty is basically an afterthought.
Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like the Perfect Health Diet a lot.

Yeah, quality food can be pricey. Even potatoes and rice are creeping up there. Thanks, Fed Reserve.The hardest adjustment for me has been the howls of my inner scotsman watching our family food bill has tripled. ALL of the cheapest bulk foods are carbs and have been eliminated. So happy we've 'gone back' to potatoes and rice.
I also regularly drink a full cup of coconut milk with my coffee. Along with fat I drank from dinner, etc. I also once drank a full cup of butter for phlebotomy class (to give a lipemic sample - it worked!) and digested it all just fine.
