    Increased blood pressure!?

    I've always had lower blood pressure, even before I knew how to eat. I've been doing really well with paleo lifestyle for a few months now (not perfect but substantial changes), and have benefitted in many ways. I've lost 15 pounds, increased energy etc. just checked my blood pressure at the grocery store for the heck of it and its the highest I've ever seen 110/88. I know the numbers are fairly normal but I'm used to a diastolic in the 60s. What's going on? Help...I'm a bit freaked.

    You are healthier now. What's there to freak out about?

    My blood pressure went from 160/100 to 110/80. Maybe we are twins....
    Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like Perfect Health Diet and WAPF Lactofermentation a lot.

    I have noticed an increase too since going paleo....any insights since your original post?

    Not enough potassium or magnesium, too much sodium can be part of the problem for some people. It was for me!
    Steak, eggs, potatoes - fruits, nuts, berries and forage. Coconut milk and potent herbs and spices. Tea instead of coffee now and teeny amounts of kelp daily. Let's see how this does! Not really had dairy much, and gut seems better for it.

    Well, this is an interesting discussion because I tend to struggle with borderline hypertension and it will be interesting to monitor my BP to see if there's a negative or positive impact to it since "fat free" is not really primal and Conventional Wisdom is all about lowering fat and cholesterol intake AND sodium to lower BP levels. I need to pick up a decent BP monitor today and start tracking my blood pressure.
