    Cast iron help with rusting

    Shop Now
I bought an old cast iron skillet that was very, very dirty. I got all the gunk off, but now there's a problem with rust - I can clean the rust off (using either vinegar + steel wool or a potato and baking soda), but for the life of me I can't get it to stay rust-free. I've tried drying it in the oven, drying it on the stovetop, drying it with towels, rubbing it with oil and tossing it in the oven - it always rusts. EVERY TIME.

Advice? By this point I've gone through ~$20 worth of vinegar, plus way too much of my time.

Lard or coconut oil rubbed in, heated, rubbed, heat, keep repeating until clean. Then add excess oil and bake at 350 for 4 hours, wiping off excess near end.
