    Question bacon chocolate truffles....?

    I'm taken with the idea of these and I assume you could sub almonds for the peanut. But d'you think it would be okay to omit the sugar? I'm trying to decide if its in there purely to sweeten or if it might be a textural thing....?

    Scratch that, I don't see why sugar would have any impact on the texture.

    I don't think you need sugar except for taste. Also if you are going to switch almonds for peanuts than maybe you could try using almond butter instead of peanut butter as well.

    Holy mackerel, I am drooling just reading about those! I think the almonds would sub well. It's not a huge amount of sugar...I bet it would be even better with raw honey, though, or you might even be able to get away with Stevia.

    I used the recipe to make a dessert treat for a small gathering we had today. I thought they ended up quite delicious. I substituted macadamia nuts for peanuts, coconut butter for peanut butter, 4 oz 70% chocolate and 2 oz 60% for the semi-sweet baking squares. I omitted the added sweetener, and I don't think it would have been a good addition if I'd used something.

    I made these last night with almonds instead of peanuts, and almond butter instead of peanut butter. I skipped the sugar, and used a little bit of stevia powder instead.

    These were SO GOOD... I printed the recipe out and put it in my own homemade primal cookbook... definitely going to make these again
