If I had walked into CrossFit and heard one "mooo" or one person call me stupid for eating a banana, I'd have walked away. If you want someone to listen to your message, you need to treat them with some dignity and respect.

I know how hard it has been for me to lose weight, and I have watched otherwise smart, bright and good friends struggle with their weight. I've seen people go get surgery. I've seen obese people make genuine effort and just not make it. One of my favorite petsitting clients was a morbidly obese man who died of a stroke. He worked his ass off to insure his family had everything they needed. Yeah, he should have stopped drinking soda and walked his own dog. But he certainly wasn't stupid or lazy, he just made his priority the wrong thing (? but really he provided well for his family, so I'm not sure). I refuse to look down at him because he was morbidly obese.

I'm not saying you need to make love to fat people and look at them and find them attractive and worship them. But would you at least credit them that they have the potential to actually be good people albeit in a larger body? And that they don't deserve to be called farm animals? Or, stupid.

I mean, I have known stupid people in all sizes. I have known smart people of all sizes. My brain is the same at 172 as it was at 300. If you think when I was 300lbs that I was merrily eating pizza and tacos and sitting on my couch and thinking "damn, it's good to be fat", you would be wrong. I would liken it more like being an alcoholic only the addiction was to a substance needed to live and very easy to get hold of.

So if you've been thin all your life, lucky you. Maybe you are all awesome and shit. Or maybe you won a genetic lottery. But don't for a minute look at a fat person and claim moral and mental superiority because you are thin.
But your friend was stupid. Open your eyes. He was morbidly obese yet he drank soda and didn't walk his own dog. That sounds like a person who is making bad decisions. How could you honestly say he wasn't stupid? It doesn't make him a bad person or a farm animal. It makes him an idiot. My father was the greatest human I've ever met. And anyone who knew him would say the same. No lie. Brilliant. Compasionate as mother theresa. Best human ever. But he smoked cigarettes off and on for 40 years. And he died in January. At age 60. Heart. From smoking. And you know what? He was an idiot for smoking. And I told him so for years. Same with 99% of fat people. They don't know when to stop shoving food in their face. They know it is bad for them and not healthy. And they do it anyway. That makes them stupid in my book

I don't think it's a matter of intelligence. I think it's a matter of discipline and invincibility. Discipline being that they cannot control themselves, or force themselves to do things differently. Invincibility being that most people think the statistics won't apply to them, and when the shit hits the fan and they get that heart attack or diabetes, they become the statistic, only by then it's too late.

If you know the consequences of your action and you continue with said actions anyway, you are stupid. Pretty cut and dry.

Please, take my shovel and smack yourselves in the face with it

Only if you can reasonably explain to me what I'm doing that I need to be smacked in the face for.

Note: I've already had one mild concussion this week.

And that's why I'm here eating HFLC Primal/Paleo.

Same with 99% of fat people. They don't know when to stop shoving food in their face. Have you ever considered that they are shoving highly addictive crap in their face that fucks with their system (one premise of primal/paleo) They know it is bad for them and not healthy. I agree 100%, but the most commonly give out advice - low fat/cardio FAILS so many despite rigid discipline that it doesn't take long to give up And they do it anyway. Their alternative is again, unsustainable dieting unless in the sea of junk advice they happen to pull info on primal or paleo and take the leap of faith that steak and eggs that should make their heart explode trumps the much exaulted grain and low fat That makes them stupid in my book- I guess but when you are getting consistent wrong information from people, it's hard to be really smart
The damn saddest thing about my petsitting client is you could see the signs of the "low fat" dieting cycle in their house (I watched their pets a lot over 2 years). Just knowing his personality- he'd have been an MDA success story had someone steered him here. You know he kept getting fatter, and kept getting more "eat less fat, more whole grains" advice. They had that weird kitchen with plenty o' sugar, heart healthy bread, fake fats. The pizza carry out boxes with egg beaters cartons.

i can vouch for the bad info. i grew up on the SAD, margarine, white bread, low fat/high carb and i developed full blown pcos. the information i was originally given to help with this was to eat clean, whole wheat, smart balance, tofu, skinless chicken breast etc blah blah low fat high carb. doctor endorsed, professional fit people endorsed, i did it like they said it and i got fatter and hairier and stupider and funnier

i would have never. ever. known about primal if i hadn't seen one woman poster with pcos who wasn't large, been in sheer awe for a few weeks then read the links she posted

am i victoria's secret thin now? no, i imagine my current unwillingness to go low carb, having a broken back & occasionally going through bouts of emotional eating have a part in that

the information given to people is wrong. crap like mcdonald's being cheap and everywhere is wrong. vegetable oil being touted as healthy is wrong. this is why people are getting fatter and yeah some people lose it, some people can't be bothered but in my opinion from being the people watcher that i am, it all goes back to the food being offered

It's just impossible to take as credible anyone who hates with a seething passion 99% of their fellow citizens and feels morally self-righteous enough to mock healthy people for not being beautiful enough.

You can try to say you don't hate them. But if out the other side of your face you are calling them lazy gluttons and hogs, yeah, you do.

It could be that the friend was stupid *because* of drinking soda.
