Smart Soapmaking: The Simple Guide to Making Traditional Handmade Soap Quickly, Safely, and Reliably, or How to Make Luxurious Handcrafted Soaps for Family, Friends, and Yourself: Anne L. Watson: 9780938497424: Books

The same author also has a book on milk soapmaking which is good as well. If you want to make soap, I say go for it! There are not a lot of start up costs and it's really not all that tough.

I've found my soaps seem better the longer they dry out. I think 3 weeks is about the minimum time they should cure. Of course, I am not a patient person so I usually cut it into bars only a few days after I make it. I have a soap cutter that is great for making the bars all uniform in thickness but I really like the wire cheese board we have more for cutting.

Have you looked at the Soap Queen blog at all? I've gotten recipes from there too. Soap Queen

I made the black and tan soap from that blog to give out at Christmas. It's great soap, except that the brownness of the beer definitely shows in the later when you use it and that is kinda annoying.
