Read Griff's Primer on Cholesterol and post the ratios,

I've read the Griff primer. It is a primer. Things like Peter Attia's cholesterol series look more useful to me. Add Hyperlipid, LLVLC, Masterjohn, etc. to taste :-)

All my ratios are fine. However I'm not willing to accept them as the best possible estimator of my CVD risk.

Once you account for LDL-P, the relationship of atherosclerosis to particle size is abolished. Big and fluffy or small and dense doesn't matter if particle count is high.

That's really sick and twisted. Financially force people to eat what the government says they should eat.

Sounds like something Amerika would do; "Buy the white bread, take the drugs, or else".

    Bloodwork results:
    Total cholesterol 266
    HDL 73
    Trigs 52
    LDL 183
    Chol/HDLC ratio 3.6
Very good ratios there, I think you're doing everything right.

I found a couple of good articles on the LDL size (large vs. small) and left them with my doc. He asked me to come back in for another round of bloodwork today to see where I'm at so more info to come...

I recently had bloodwork done and had similar numbers. Of course I got the 'your cholesterol is high, you need to eat less fat and exercise more'. Well I probably could exercise more, but when I did the ratios, I was fine. The only 'high' number was total cholesterol, 216. Total cholesterol is a meaningless number, unless you are over 350. I do have hashis and IBS and have been gluten/grain free for 8 months and trying to be as primal as I can. I feel the best I have in a long time, so I'm just ignoring the doctors orders.

    Had a VAP done:

    Total LDL-C direct = 218
    Total HDL-C direct = 72
    Total VLDL-C direct = 18
    Total cholesterol = 308
    Trigs direct = 64

    Total non HDL-C = 236
    Total APOB100 = 146

    LP(a) = 8.0
    IDL-C = 31
    REAL LDL-C = 178
    SUM TOTAL LDL-C = 218
real LDL size pattern = A

    Remnant LIPO = 42

    HDL-2 = 23
    HDL-3 = 49
    VLDL-3 = 11

The three ratios are still good - any other thoughts? Thanks!

^ So what is this saying, that you have large safe "pattern A" LDL and a good (low) number for bad VLDL?

I just got my bloodwork done for the first time since I went primal and here are my raw numbers. Its also the first time in my life I have had "high" cholesterol. It looks like they used the Friedman calculation:

    Cholesterol 303
    Trig 52
    HDL 58
    LDL 235

If I run them through the Iranian formulae I get:
    Cholesterol 303
    Trig 52
    HDL 58
    LDL 191

Reading Griff's primer it seems I may have an LDL issue, so I will ask for a VAP and CRP test if the followup test shows weird ratios again:

    RATIOS OPTIMUM FRIEDMAN IRANIAN
    Total/HDL <5 5.22 5.22
    Trig/HDL <2 0.90 0.90
    LDL/HDL <4.3 4.04 3.30

Should I be worried about Total/HDL ratio? If there is an LDL issue the only thing I can think of is that I eat eggs for breakfast each morning and I like them cooked through (not runny) and I like my meat to be as close to charcoal as possible. Could this combo be causing LDL issues?
