Wanted to share my 30 day Paleo/Primal transformation as a bodybuilder

    Primal Blueprint Expert Certification
I've been doing bodybuilding for years now. One of the toughest things as a natural athlete is to maintain a low bodyfat year round and yet still have good performance in the gym.

I went strictly Paleo in Feb and the results have astonished me! Leaning out effortlessly while my strength and performance in the gym skyrocketed.

And that's not even the best part... productivity, focus, energy, and motivation are all through the roof. Just wanted to share this.

The biggest fear I see in bodybuilding communities is that "you won't get enough carbs." At 200lbs I had no trouble getting adequate carbs from fruits and veggies(mostly sweet potatoes).

What did your macros look like most days? Was it still the standard bodybuilding suggestion of 40c/40p/20f, or did you opt for high fat ? Sorry if that's posted somewhere, and I didn't see it!
Carb cycling between 50 and 200g carbs, 150-200g protein/day and then filled in the rest of the cals with fat(mostly coconut oil).

Wow! Very impressive. I'm a figure competitor and I've been primal since March. I'm really happy with my physique and the easy of staying lean since going primal. Especially without doing 2 hrs of cardio 5 days/wk like I use to do. The only issue I've noticed is that my strength has seemed to decrease and I've lost a bit of muscularity. I've been trying to push harder IBM the gym to correct this, some days are better than others but still challenging. Any suggestions??

I'd say you're likely not getting full glycogen stores during your lifting sessions. Maybe try eating a carb dense(but still primal) meal 2 hours pre-workout. I like doing a plantain fried in coconut oil topped with honey, provides about 80g total carbs with 60g sugar, plenty of glucose to fuel a workout!

And totally agreed with you about the 2hr cardio sessions. It's so nice to stay lean with zero effort. I now mostly do 4 to 6 minute tabatas for cardio. I think bodybuilding in general has it so backwards in a lot of ways(tons of cardio, eating ridiculous amount of grains/carbs).

I had great results with the Paleo/Primal way of eating too, but now I'm trying to not count calories and macros. Do you ever tried it?

Right now I'm in Europe and can't find any coconut oil
I've been using primarily EVOO, Avocados & kerrygold Irish butter as my source of fats. I was thinking Abt adding honey pre-workout so will definitely try ur suggestion. Thx!

Wow if that's your in your avi, you're massive!

Yep I don't really count macros anymore really. When I feel like I need more recovery I'll just eat an extra sweet potatoe or two and drink an extra protein shake.

Seems to work and makes diet much easier to stick to, rather than being all neurotic.

I don't count cals/macros much, but shoot for 150-175g protein/day, and then fat just makes up the rest of my cals on low carb days.

I do carb cycle, currently do High carb Mon/Tues(200-300g), low carb wed(30g), High thurs(300g), med Fri(150g), low Sat and Sunday. It coincides with workout day, I do legs Tues/Fri now so I want full glycogen stores for those workouts.
