I've been primal for about a year and haven't tested my cholesterol in about 3 years, last result was about 4.3 (only used to eat chicken breast and white fish - no red meat & eggs). A week ago went for another test and my total Cholesterol was up to 6.8. Any suggestions....haven't been for the blood test to see results of the full analysis. I have read a article on Mark's website about cholesterol, but didn't quite understand if I should be concerned (mom and dad have got the same issue's). I'm 33 year old female and about 20 lbs overweight.

What are the same issues that your mom and dad have? High total cholesterol numbers but no heart condition? I wouldn't be worrying about it.

You need to check out Chris Kresser's website. He's done extensive research and writing on cholesterol and heart health. To better understand your risk you may need to get a more detailed test to know your LDL-particle number and ratios of triglycerides and HDL. Total cholesterol is not an accurate tool to determine risk factor.

Giving total cholesterol on it own is a useless number.

That's like me just saying I'm 68 Kg (150 lb ) and asking if I'm over-weight (with out providing any other details).

Answer can be YES overweight (if I'm short), or NO underweight if I'm tall, or NORMAL/Good weight if I'm medium height.
Any one of the 3 answers may be correct depending on my height/build (the info that I didn't provide)

So is 6.8 a bad number?
Don't know if you don't state your :
    -HDL
    -LDL
    -Trigs
    -Blood glucose etc

The extra information could show your lipids are great, average, or they are bad depending on extra info not provided - no other info, then no idea.

Yep loose the 20 lb, walk, exercise etc.
