    It's possible she's one of those people that acts interested to try to be nice, but really doesn't want to try. My parents are like that and it pisses me off that they waste my time with so many questions and never follow through, but they think they are being nice.

    Also, having gotten religious books from my grandma for Christmas (and nothing else) I will say that books as presents suck and should be outlawed.

    If she's interested already, sure, go for it. It sounds like she's fairly open to the ideas so she almost certainly won't be offended. I'd never get any diet books for my sister, she would get offended.
