    Exercise while VLC

    Primal Blueprint Expert Certification
I've been eating VLC in an effort to lean out. It seems to be working.
However, I've been feeling crummy during workouts. Today I "tried" to do my normal sprinting routine and totally struggled to complete even half of it. I feel like I have NO gas in the tank. And after lifting, I feel zonked.

So, do I back off all workouts? Or do I try carb cycling? Or is that just for body builders? Will it hinder weight loss?

Yep - sprinting while VLC is not easy - some people adapt some what, others not at all.

See here Is low carb the best way to eat? and scroll down to 'What are Some wanker moves with regards to LC?'

How long have you been VLC? I would have thought weight training would be OK (not glycolitic) - are you eating enough overall?

You could have a serving of carbs the meal before a sprint workout.

Thanks for the link- good read for sure. I've only been VLC for a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll adjust more.

I seem to have a difficult time losing weight if I incorporate fruit and starch. I think it's b/c I have a bigger appetite, and I tend to over eat carbs- (likely b/c I try to restrict them at other times!). Really, I'm just hoping to lean out (drop 10 or so lb's that I've put on over the last few months), and then plan to add back in more carbs.
Any other suggestions on how accomplish my goals are much appreciated!

Peter Attai has done some good work on this sorta thing:

The interplay of exercise and ketosis
The interplay of exercise and ketosis

He recommends a product called superstarch to hit that high gear needed for sprints and such while maintaining an otherwise low carb profile:

    Introduction to Superstarch
    Introduction to Superstarch

Each link above is a part I and part II ....

Carb cycle without a doubt. Will also keep your thyroid and metabolism from crashing.

When I was VLC, I did carb cycling and scheduled my sprints the day after a carb refeed. So I'll have a day where I eat lots of carbs, and I'll sprint the next morning.

Best way to do it? Should I have one carb-only day a week? Or two dinners a week as mostly carb? Seems to be a lot of different ways to cycle...??

I personally think that you need more time to adjust. Maybe Paleobird will have an idea on this? I did a HIIT workout the other day and I got through it. I plan on doing another one today. We will see how it goes, but I'm not doing any carb refeeds right now. Have you calculated how many calories you should be eating, are you sure you are eating enough?
