Cool things available at Good Eggs this week. My order contains two three-pound bags of Satsumas (those tangerine things), four pounds of persimmons, and two spaghetti squash. For some odd reason, Iím having an urge to eat plants.
I went to a pumpkin carving party. Lots of fun. I didnít eat any of their food. Again. Itís funny, but their food doesnít look like food to me. Itís not the snob in me, but more that my orientation has changed. I did try the homemade pepper jelly Ė freakiní awesome.
There were a couple of homeless guys at the party. Theyíre the borderline guys who are too functional to get real help, but not functional enough to hold jobs. Bright, funny guys. There was a homeless man in Eugene who was batshit crazy. Someone beat him to death for stealing about $20 worth of empty cans out of a back yard. The guy who killed him got 18 months.
My neighbor got a pretty short bob. She looks great in it. I donít usually like short hair, but she rocks it. It almost makes me want one. But I know Iíd sob if I ever cut my longish hippie hair.
Speaking of Eugene, itís that time of year when the emergency shelters start becoming active. I canít remember the exact temp, but once it goes below something like 45 degrees F, there are a group of churches and volunteers that open up the emergency shelters that arenít open all year. Thinking that New Orleans, being one hot bed of hate toward the poor, would probably never have emergency shelter, I asked one of the homeless guys that was at the party. He told me that in this city, a ďfreeze dayĒ is when the temp goes below 55! LOL Ė the South sure is different.
55 degrees and Iím sleeping practically buck ass naked with the windows open. Theyíre calling it a freeze day. Of course, Iím sure my neighbors laugh at me when I lock myself in during summer. Or complain about the heat when itís over 85.
Cool Googledoodle for what would have been Edith Headís 116th birtday:
