Oh c'mon, anything made with cake mix, diet soda, diet hot cocoa and fat free cool whip can't be bad for you. It only has !!!11!!1! 5 !!111!!!! weight watchers points, NO FAT, and under 250 calories. Plus, hell once it touches your tongue, you'll regurgitate it anyway.

I love Sandra Lee. She is the full fat version of Hungry Girl.

My understanding is that this was a traditional recipe, though made with soda crackers and apple cider vinegar for times when apples were not available.

I don't have many of my own because before this I rarely cooked.

However, there was the time I added canned chicken and sliced yellow squash to Chicken Flavored Raman noodles (to make it healthy!). I feel like I should apologize to the squash.
And this isn't mine but when my dad (who is now low-carb and mostly Primal) first started his weightloss journey, he was doing the American Heart Association plan and told me about how he'd developed a chocolate mousse recipe with instant pudding and Fat-Free Cool Whip.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread (yet), but that made me laugh. Poor squash.

Haha, how about this one? Would you like some corn syrup with your white sugar?
I think the egg whites are owed an apology here

Looks like a typical candy recipe of that sort. The corn syrup prevents crystallization, which keeps the candy smoother in texture.

My mom makes this thing called ham loaf. I've had it once and even pre-Primal it was terrible.
Not sure what her recipe is, but it's like candied pork meatloaf.
    This would be similar:
    GERMAN STYLE HAM LOAF
    2 lbs. ground smoked ham
    2 lbs. hamburger
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. milk
    2 c. graham cracker crumbs
    SAUCE:
    3/4 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. tomato juice
    1 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
    2 tbsp. vinegar
Mix first 5 ingredients and spread in loaf pan. Bake 3/4 hour at 325 degrees, then add sauce and bake 3/4 hour more.

My mother was a great cook when I was growing up in the 60s. After I left home to go to college she switched from being what was then called a "health food faddist" who bought organic meat from local producers to someone who ate mostly grain and skim milk. I recall coming home from college and being served a "dessert" of canned fruit in water that had been thickened with arrowroot with a topping of unsweetened whipped evaporated milk. Gack.
