    Craving bland food, not fat

    The paleo assumption seems to be that the human body inherently loves fat... but is it possible for someone's body to legitimately enjoy carbs more than fat? Why is enjoying carbs considered an "addiction" or a "craving", while enjoying fat is considered good and natural -- despite the consensus that both have a part in a healthy diet?

    Today, for example, I had nothing in my kitchen except avocado, bacon, olives, eggs, ghee... but all I wanted was a plain banana. I wasn't working out, my energy levels were fine, it didn't feel like just a "craving"... I legitimately just couldn't stomach the idea of eating fat.

    Yes, my body craves egg yolks sometimes, or bacon occasionally... but sometimes 60-70g of fat feels so forced, and my body doesn't want it.

    What gives? And should I trust what my body seems to be asking for?

    It is not enjoying carbs that is considered an addiction. It is when eating carbs consistently results in a binge.

    There is a huge difference between a "craving" and the feeling of "addiction". If you don't know the difference, it's probably not a problem for you.

    Paleo/primal carbs are fine. Have some if you want. I had fruit salsa today.

    The point is that they are not needed in anywhere near the amount recommended by SAD and definitely not from the sources recommended.

    I think you've misdefined what we label as addiction.

    Enjoying carbs doesn't make you an addict.

    A functional metabolism -- I hypothesize -- craves certain things from time to time to fill voids or deficiencies. A dysfunctional metabolism constantly craves the easiest source of fast energy because it has issues deriving energy from other sources. One is normal, the other is not.

    All carbs are not created equal. A banana does not equal a bag of doritos. Eat a banana. Then eat a potato if your body wants one.

    When you talk about carbs, you seem to talk about them in the sense of processed foods. There's nothing wrong with natural carbs in vegetables, I eat 200+g of starchy and carby vegetables daily.

    My wants are all over the place. One day I'll eat almost no carbs and another day, nothing will sound more appealing than a cup of white rice with some Parmesan on it. During warm weather, I probably eat berries daily, but in cool weather, I barely remember berries exist.

    I think if one of the messages we get from Primal is to no longer be afraid of fat in our foods, we're doing okay. Life's too short to deprive yourself of a banana.

    Don't be afraid of good fats, don't be afraid of good carbs. It's not like a piece of bacon is a bunch healthier than a banana.

    I think people who speak of carb addiction are not shoving bananas and sweet potato in their mouths. They are generally struggling with either processed sugar or grains. The other factor is that PB suggests that fruit and starches may stall weight loss, which makes people afraid of carbs.
