While I'm not VLC, I have understood for about 25+ years that lower carbs than CW suggests is better for me. I had a friend back in the 80s that told me after years of trying everything, his mother (she was in her late 40s at the time) finally lost that last 15 pounds that put her back to her college weight simply by cutting out what he called white starches (bread, cereal, potatoes, rice). He also told me that what the govt recommends as a healthy diet for humans is the same one they recommend to farmers to fatten livestock. He really didn't have to sell it because it made a whole lot of sense to me, and looking back on my lifetime of yoyo-ing, there was a definite correlation between when I was fat (eating lots of carbs) and when I was thin (fewer carbs).
