    Coconut oil after workout

    Shop Now
I work out in the morning before going to work and my primary goals are minimizing body fat and maintaining muscle mass (not trying to bulk or anything). I am trying to cut down on my carbohydrate intake and am looking for a little bit of advice regarding coconut oil.

I am considering working out in a fasted state, then eating coconut oil and chicken breast immediately after the workout. My thoughts are that the coconut oil will provide energy for muscle recovery, initiate the body into fat loss mode, and trigger an insulin response to facilitate protein (from the chicken) uptake.

Is my reasoning flawed? What other things should I consider here. I am having a hard time with the whole "coconut oil triggers insulin response" thing. If it triggers insulin response then how is fat burning initiated?

Also, as far as post-workout nutrition, is the idea described above a recipe for disaster? Any feedback or insight would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if your plan is optimal or mis-guided, but I often times have only butter and coconut oil (in my coffee(though sometimes by the spoon)) before working out, and I feel pretty good. I think the coconut oil has a minor thermogenic effect, because it definitely leaves me bristling with energy. Good luck

Why not try whey protein powder?
It's more convenient and cheaper than chicken

I have coconut oil after my workout. The only thing I find is that it keeps me full longer and I don't eat again until 6-8 hours later. On a hard workout day this can be a problem because I find I don't recover as well when I wait that long before my second meal. I usually like to get it around hour 5. Otherwise, I've had no problems.

Try it and see if it works for you. Or eat food.

I don't worry about eating after my workouts. I almost always work out fasted.

Hi I'm an active triathlete. I use whey protein (choc flav) mixed with milk og water after workout. I've been heating it in the micro-oven and adding coconut oil. Gives heat, loads of energy and tastes really good.

While I am 100% primal, sometimes I change gears to Paleo.

Dont' just get any Whey protein though - get some really quality stuff. I found this company a while back and really appreciate the fact that it's grass fed and minimally processed. Whey Natural! USA? ? Nature's Purest Remedy?
