    Copied from my journal entry:

I decided to do a little research on these 3 new supplements - black cohosh, evening primrose oil, and dong quai. I only got to evening primrose oil............ and have found several studies, although small, and not duplicated - they show promising effects of EPO on weight loss. The bottle says to take 3 jell caps - 3 times a day. I'm ON IT!

I saw on one board women were discussing the EPO and DQ and several women mentioned the increase in libido with the DQ. I'll be taking the max dose recommended for that as well!

You may want to keep in mind that the main promoter of EPO, David Horrobin, died of lymphoma in his early 60s:

The best info on menopause online is Ray Peat's articles:

You might also read John Lee's books which were inspired by Peat.

    was horrobin peri-menopausal?

he saw a way to make money off something that couldn't be patented in its natural form. guy may have been a sheister, but he didn't invent evening primrose oil.
As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.

I have always liked EPO it was really great for me to really diminish PMS, it just seems to help balance things out. My daughter also uses it regularly. It is supposed to be good for growing hair too. My doc doesn't rate it for menopause though.
Starting Primal June 2012 at 148.5lbs, goal weight in November 2012.

Oh - I don't need thicker hair! I wouldn't mind if it grew faster as I'm wanting to grow it really long! I'm feeling good - day 3 on the EPO and the "dong" and I have only had one slight hot flash this morning, very early. I slept great so I don't think I had any hot flashes during the night - the sheets were not wet! Maybe this is the ticket for the hot flashes anyway. The jury is still out on the libido.......... although my thoughts have been going to places they have not been in about 2 years. So that gives me a bit of encouragement!

8 years now. It gets better or worse for a while, but hasn't gone away. Chaste, Dong, Tribulus, Cohosh etc haven't worked for me. Even had the naturopath go through a series of her best formulaes with no real success. HRT patches give me diarrhea, and I've been told bioidentical would have the same effect (if I could get it - very close to impossible here). St Johns Wort takes the edge off it, so I stick with that. Went to see a specialist doc who put me Effexor. That worked, but made me nauseous and dizzy so didn't last long. Her next thing to try was an anti-epilepsy drug, and I refused to go there.

I don't remember trying plain old vitamin E - so much of it is soy based and I prefer to avoid soy. Maybe that is one to look for.

wow......... sorry you've had no help and EIGHT years! You have my total sympathy! My doc said she's never heard vit. E can do anything for hot flashes.

My HFs seem to be less intense and are overwith sooner than prior to starting the supplements. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the stuff will continue to build up in my system and the positive effects will increase.

On the libido side............ I'm starting to feel a little spark returning! just a little glimmer in the distance - but it is more than I had a week ago! Yeah Dong Quai!
