Also, why no probiotic supplements? What's wrong with that. Oh! And my aloe supplement has cascara in it. Thanks for the responses. I've been thinking about trying GAPS and/or FODMAPS, any takes/opinions on this?
Has to do with lactic acid and the fact usually IBS-C sufferers have a build-up of bacteria and probiotics tend to aggravate, rather than alleviate the problem.

The effect of raw carrot on serum lipids and colon function.

I think quality of cascara is really important to gauge its worth btw

Probiotics are more important if you are eating lost of fibre - you need the good bugs to break them down.
A helpful study. I hope they have a lot more of them. But someone else here proposed a much better analogy.

You are a logger, throwing logs into a river for transportation down to barges. But the river is already choked full of logs and when you add more they just stack up. You are told to keep adding more. Finally someone upstream opens the dam. Huge amounts of water pour out. All the logs pile downstream but as they go the scour out the hills on each side of the river, tearing out great hunks of rock and dirt. All this with the logs move down river. Now the scoured out hills are in terrible shape.

And you now have IBS, IBD, and heaps of other worse diseases.

Two hundred grams of raw carrot is how many carrots? A lot I'll bet. It "reduced serum cholesterol by 11%, increased fecal bile acid and fat excretion by 50%, and modestly increased stool weight by 25%." I suppose the fecal bile just means that's where they tested it. Reducing fat excretion might be associated with reducing serum cholesterol. The increased stool weight is definately not worth it, for me. I don't thnk I've ever eaten 200 g of carrots, and I like them.

Well, 28 grams is an ounce, so 200 grams is about 8 ounces. A cup of carrots is too many?

Which probiotics are you taking? I have a good friend with IBS-C who found elimination of grains combined with the right probiotic completely cured her. She had tried lots of probiotics without any help, but then took primal defense and is doing great. It is painfully expensive, but works perfectly for her.
Using low lectin/nightshade free primal to control autoimmune arthritis. (And lost 50 lbs along the way )

I'm currently taking these probiotics, throughout the day: </title></head><body></body></html><!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Buy Nature's Bounty Acidophilus with Bifidum, Chewable Probiotic, Natural Strawberry & More | drugstore.com

Tonight, I've only taken 1.5 doses of miralax instead of 2. Also, just checked my aloe caps, they don't contain the cascara but here's the brand I use: Nature's Way Aloe Vera Latex and Leaf -- 100 Vegetarian Capsules - Vitacost
I also only took 2 fiber supplements instead of my usual 4-5. However, I took 3 magnesium (citrate and oxide) instead of 2.
Finally, here is the digestive enzyme I use: Digest Gold

I've been at a loss to think what veggies to eat on a primal diet without them getting terminally boring, and sauerkraut suddenly "occurred" to me, so I bought a culture - enough for about a third of a tonne of sauerkraut - and looking forward to my first batch. Since giving up masses of fruit, rice and stuff cooked with veg oil my bowels have cleared up immensely - they were really foul and quite loose most of the time - not to mention the flatulence (I know, too much information).

First batch will be cabbage plus some garlic and ginger and a handful of chopped home grown Jalapeno chillies. Now THAT will show the bowels who's boss around here.

Aussies can buy the cultures from green living australia (no affiliation).

I'll be looking north for the "Mushroom Cloud" when you hoe into that batch of sauerkraut

I think you're smart to wean yourself off gently. Laxatives and digestive aids are really not a great thing to go off cold turkey. You've been assisting elimination for years and if you go off cold turkey, you might find yourself in a world of pain. I agree with Damiana about starting to introduce food probiotics while you do this.
