If you need carbs in your diet, you could do worse than eat a little rice occasionally.

But it comes down to the question, "What is 'paleo'?" Paleo means something different to different people, based on conjecture about how people ate millions of years ago and the best way to recreate a healthy diet similar to that.

Primal and paleo do not have the same meanings.

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious as I have heard of the "rice grey area" per say and was curious where it fell. I try to follow a fairly strict primal/paleo diet nowadays but I actually started that when I discovered I cannot tolerate gluten so I cut rice out (not knowing it was okay to have) and have not had it since then. I have just seen so many conflicting views on it and have avoided it because of that.

I also have always viewed paleo/primal as synonymous. Could you elaborate a bit on that? Now I am curious!!

Primal is but one adaptation of the Paleo concept.

Primal is Paleo's more relaxed little brother, imo. Primal allows full fat dairy and some sugars. Paleo (ala Whole30 purist) does not.

My kids eat various organic rice based cereals all the time. They eat it with whole milk from pastured cows. I have zero concerns.

Unless your kids are overweight or have a genetic disposition towards diabetes, I'd have very little concern. Kids are amazing and as long as they are active, can thrive on the same diets that give us adults problems. Rice has been eaten for thousands of years and white rice specifically has very little that will harm you.

I also let my kids eat real sourdough bread. I'm guessing they will survive and thrive just fine. (Neither are gluten intolerant, we've tested both.)
