Has anyone tried Jarrow whey protein? It's not grass-fed, but it is hormone-free, and it has pages of 5-star reviews. It also states that it is free of antibiotics, pesticides, and herbicides.

I came across a mention of Jarrow whey in a post-workout-shake discussion. Crossfit luminary James "OPT" Fitzgerald recommends Jarrow and "Dream Whey"; he also sells it, so there's that, but maybe he sells it because he's into more "natural" wheys.

I find the isolate vs concentrate discussion interesting; Mark touched on it in one of his posts, leaning towards concentrate because it's cheaper and less processed. The Defense Nutrition site really promotes the concentrate, asserting that the isolate process denatures the protein, making it less useful (harmful?) to consume. Dream Whey is isolate, but they claim an "Ultra Low Temp" isolation process that avoids harming the amino acids. Jarrow is concentrate. Neither Jarrow nor Dream contain artificial sweeteners or added sugar. Defense Nutrition's Warrior Whey has no sugar added and no "artificial sweetners" but "is sweetened naturally with lohan (a non-glycemic fruit extract)". Don't know what the story with "lohan" is.

They all sound like good products. As for the taste? Don't know. Cost? They look pricey; maybe Jarrow's not so bad. Need to do a comparison of them vs each other and run-of-the mill isolates.

Here's the post re: PWO nutrition and Crossfit.

I think I might go with the NOW Foods brand - unflavored. It has sick reviews on Amazon and is a decent price for the 5 lb. or 10 lb. tub. Has anyone else used this brand? Do you recommend it? Are you against it?

    Thanks!

I have used it. The flavor is pleasantly neutral, it mixes well, and adds protein without adding a bunch of junk. I like it and shall purchase more as needed.

I agree Optimum Nutrition has excellent taste and quality proteins. However, I was using Pro Complex, but I recently switched to Platinum Hydrowhey (Chocolate and Vanilla flavors). It's more expensive but its GLUTEN FREE unlike Pro Complex. See the note I received from ON below:
    __________________________________________

    Dear Henry,

Thank you for your interest in Optimum Nutrition products. The
following products are those to avoid; those which absolutely contain
    gluten:

100% Whey Gold Standard-Cookies n' Cream (cookie pieces)
100% Casein Gold Standard -Cookies n' cream (cookie pieces)
    Serious Mass-all flavors(glutamine peptides)
    Aftermax-all flavors (glutamine peptides)
    Pro Complex-all flavors (glutamine peptides)
Pro Complex Gainer-all flavors (glutamine peptides)
    Nitro-Core 24 - all flavors (glutamine peptides)
Lift Bar - Cookies & Cream (glutamine peptides & cookie pieces)
OPD bar - All flavors (wheat protein isolate)
Steel bar -all flavors (wheat protein isolate)
Platinum Hydrowhey -Cookies & Cream (cookie pieces)

*To the best of our knowledge these are the only products that contain
gluten. While we are not adding gluten to our other products, we cannot
say with 100% certainty that our other products are gluten-free. We use
the same equipment to make products with and without gluten. Although
the equipment is cleaned in-between, trace amounts of gluten may remain.

Glad to hear that. You have just confirmed my decision. I am officially trying NOW Foods brand. it is simply pure whey protein and that's what I want. I make shakes with it by adding fruit, greens, coconut milk, etc. Thanks!

    You are welcome.

I simply mix it with diluted heavy cream (when I'm on cow dairy) or other such (not a fan of sweet beverages). Darn good stuff.

I thoroughly enjoy coconut milk or avocado based smoothies with whey. Sometimes a scoop of plain whey with 1/2 banana and 1/4 cup berries is great too. Just depends on various things.

umm.. I'm starting to consider whey protein even though I've always been all for whole foods... is there any reason why I should consume it though?

    Jay Rob Enterprises

Has anyone tried either of these brands? If not, what brand do you buy?

    Thanks!

Jay Robb for sure!!! All natural and very delicious!!!
