    Protein Powder

    Primal Fuel
Okay, I know Protein Powder is not Primal, but whenever I started lifting weights combined with the protein powder, I really did see faster results in comparison to these days without any protein powder. The reason I stopped drinking them, though, was because it hurt my stomach, made me bloated, and gave me gas. I sought out the most easily digested one from a little bit of research and decided to try Isopure Zero Carb in both chocolate and vanilla. I loved the shakes, but if it's going to make me feel like hell afterward, it's not worth it.

I am pretty certain I am lactose sensitive, gluten sensitive, and soy sensitive, but no blatant intolerances. Do any of you have suggestions for protein powders that you might have tried that worked for you, especially despite the fact that you have a very sensitive stomach?

Currently, I am taking zinc, magnesium, BCAA's, and l-glutamine for exercise supplements. I know that eating real protein foods would be most beneficial, and that's what I've been trying to do, but I just miss the shakes, I love them and want them back. :/

I had the same situation with a lot of protein powders back in the day. There are a good amount of whey powders now that filter out the lactose . I forget the brand I've gone through because its been a while but honestly if you go to the right supplement store you have lots of options. I'd make sure they don't add sweeteners-- especially sugar alcohols-- and that they do not add amino acids, and that they filter out the lactose.

Having said that, I'm surprised with all those intolerances you can handle L glutamine well. I don't know what it is, but L glutamine totally screws up my gut in isolation. That was the thing I realized most when supplementing whey-- if there were added aminos acids-- particularly glutamine-- the drink would make my life hell.

These days I eat a lot of beef, and eggs, and haven't found the need for a protein powder. Also, zinc is awesome but a lot of grass fed ground beef is loaded with it. My favorite zinc back when I supplemented it was "Bio zinc" by solaray. It is a hybrid of 3 different kinds of zinc with added B-6 for absorbancy. But.....since I've been eating more beef I haven't felt the need to supplement.

I mainly take l-glutamine as a way to kill sugar cravings. The l-glutamine really does nothing to me physically, but I'm suspecting it may have an effect on my mood? The powder I was taking, isopure 0 carb, was a whey protein isolate, but it had sucralose, soy lecithin, and a big long list of other things. I would just try to forget powders all together, but I can't seem to get above 80-90g protein every day, whereas before I could hit the mark indefinitely. I know, 80g isn't so bad, but since I want to be adding more muscle I honestly feel I do better with a bunch of protein in my system, like 110-120g. Thanks for your reply, although I wish you could remember the name of the powder! Ah well, guess Ill have to do my own research a little, lol.

Have you been drinking whey protein concentrate powders, or whey protein isolate powders? If it's the former, then try an isolate!

I had to stop using protein powders for a while due to my body reacting poorly to them.

But, I found that I can handle whey isolate perfectly fine; give it a shot if you haven't already!

Yeah, Isopure 0 Carb is whey isolate, though. I think all the other added crap in there was what upset my insides so much. Did you use a specific brand that you particularly liked? maybe I can try it out. Thanks =)
