Two words. Bone broth. Use a crock pot if you have one,(a stock pot on the stove) and lots of good free range beef bones, chicken bones, shrimp shells, seaweed, 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice, onions, garlic, and any other veggies you like in broth, but really only the bones and acid are necessary. Cover with two parts water, and cook for 12-24 hrs, or however long you can wait. Full of minerals, easy to digest nutrition, and onions/garlic are great for getting at any residual bugs in the GI tract. This can be medicated with other herbs as well, I'd probably toss in turmeric and ginger too for digestive health and healing after an infection. Eat lightly until you are really hungry for food, and go for easy to digest protein sources like eggs. Baked apples or homemade applesauce might be good too, as long as it is made at home w/o sugar.
