SAD prohibits you from eating fat.
Primal prohibits you from eating sugar (ultimately it's all blood sugar).
You're just switching your limits from one food group to another.
So how is Primal any more limited than SAD?
5'0" female, 42 years old.
Started Primal October 31, 2011, at a skinny fat 111.5 lbs.
Current weight: 101.5. lbs and holding steady. Spring yardwork here we come!
Co-worker 1: Needs to lose ~50. Now he wants to start Mayo Clinic Diet. Yeesh. Give it up, man.
Co-worker 2: Needed to lose ~55. Lost 20 from stress. Started Primal in Sept, lost 20 more, but gained 10 back on a carb spree. We're working on it.
Bacon is never boring. Ever. Period.
I keep a primal foods gallery on my phone. I've had people present the same "there's nothing to eat" argument, so I just pull out my phone and slide through literally 50 different pictures of meals I've cooked. Tends to stop that issue in its tracks.
High Weight: 225
Weight at start of Primal: 189
Current Weight: 174
Goal Weight: 130
Primal Start Date: 11/26/2012
Hey, that's a pretty good idea. Not only to show the naysayers but to remind yourself when you're thinking there's nothing to eat.
That's what I never quite understood. CW is supposed to be so healthy but a) hardly anybody ever actually follows what CW says and in fact, Primal people come closest, especially those of us who don't eat tons of fat and b) anybody I know who makes half a stab at following CW and refraining from red meat and fat always ends up on the couch with a big bowl of pistachios or a big bag of corn chips (Yes, I have a particular someone in mind) or a giant lemon poppyseed scone.

Most people eat 10 different plants and 5 different meats: tomato, lettuce, onion, potato, banana, apple, grapes, strawberries, oranges, garlic, beef, pork, chicken, turkey and "fish". They find it hard to imagine a diet where you only eat "meat, veg, nuts and fruit, with some eggs and dairy", as they don't understand how much variety the world holds.
I rarely talk to people about Paleo/Primal, but, when I do, it's when they're NOT complaining about their weight or health.
You see, I don't really "do" pity. And one thing I've learned about people is that they're more open to suggestion when they're happy and stable. When they complain they only ever want pity, not to be advised.
Great post. My primal dinner/PWO meal tonight was 3 organic chicken thighs, oven roasted in red palm oil and garam masala, swiss chard 2 ways (stalks roasted with the chicken, greens pan crisped in bacon far) and acorn squash with cinnamon and grass fed butter. Anyone who finds that blandvor boring is out of his mind. Chocotaco's food porn thread is full of more exciting dishes yet if that example isn't a sufficient disproof of the 'primal is boring' hypothesis. Apologies for the typos, I'm on my phone.
