When our microwave broke a few years ago, we tossed it and got a small convection/toaster oven for heating small things or for using when it's too hot for the big oven.

I don't like how microwaves heat food. The texture changes too much, and flavors are different depending on the food. At work I use one because I have such limited break times. I try to bring food that I can eat cold though, and never heat in plastic.

At home I plan ahead and reheat food in oven-safe dishes, slow & low. Once you get in the habit, it's not a big deal. Dish up and heat while you do something else. Food just feels & tastes better cooked in an oven or on the stovetop.

And since we grow most of our own food, meat included, I can't justify disrespecting our efforts by nuking it. It may be convenient, but it's just not as good cooked that way.

I haven't had one for over 8 years, & before that only had one because Hubby already had it when I moved here.
If nothing else, I don't like how they affect the taste & texture of my food. it just makes things taste "off" to me.
And then my entire kitchen is like 8x6 so not a lot of space to waste on gadgets I don't care for..
If im gonna waste space it better be for something I like.. Like my gas range cooker cause I prefer to cook with Fire!
Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I haven't had one since June of 2006. Don't miss it a bit. Steam, oven, boiling, warms things up or me.

I have little time to cook Tuesday-Thursday, so on Monday I cook up a few dishes and put them in the fridge. When it's time to eat, I warm what I want in the microwave. Better primal food warmed in a microwave than pop-tarts from the vending machine at work.
