Um, yeah, when I shopped there ( I just can't afford their things anymore, and don't intend to give them anymore of my money) I would yell out to my mother in disgust- "These women aren't even plus sized. They are... like... size 6. This is a slap in the face."
The process is simple: Free your mind, and your ass will follow.

I clicked on the link, glanced at the first picture then got distracted by the link to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Of the two, I consider it the better choice. I found nothing beautiful in the first photo of the fat women....nothing.

So I understand Marilyn Monroe would be a plus size today?

Nope, Marilyn Monroe was teeny tiny compared to most women today, her waist was around 22 inches.

Yeah, the Marilyn was a size 8 or 12 or 14 or whatever idea gets trotted out quite a bit. Of course, that was back before vanity sizing. Comparing apples to apples she was not plus sized or whatever other euphemism one chooses to use.

As for the women in the various links, I agree with those here that neither extreme is healthy. I admit that I find neither aesthetically pleasing either, but eh, to each their own. If someone wants to weight 1,000 pounds or someone wants to watch a 1,000 pound person eat on pay-per-view, then that is all good with me. I don't get it, but I don't get why people play golf either.

Beauty though is a tricky word. Beauty can be found in some very strange places. Sometimes there is beauty to be found in ugliness or in places outside of the norm. It is very situational and of course depends on the perception of those involved. I've found, with people, that often inner beauty radiates into outward beauty. A happy, confident fat person often looks more beautiful to me that an 'attractive' person who looks like they hate their lives/themselves.

Yeah, Monroe in her prime was a slender babe. No idea where this notion of her as a "curvy" chubster came from.

The self-esteem movement. When I was teaching we had some dude come and talk about body image. The first thing he did was show a picture of Marilyn and some modern day model (I can't recall who) and say, "Marilyn Monroe was a size 12. This model <whomever> is a size 2. See how society has changed their idea of beauty? Is this <points to model> what we want our daughters to aspire to?" (or something to that effect). The bottom line is they were probably very similar in build except the model was taller. It is an attempt to convince women/girls that society is the issue not their bodies.

That said, I am all for self-esteem. It should just be based on reality. Love your body no matter what size it is (though make it bigger/smaller for health reasons) but do not delude yourself.

Marilyn was probably a size 2 or 4 in today's sizes. Doing a comparison to a current size 2 model isn't the same thing unless you're looking at bikini models, who are curvier. A typical fashion model is a walking coat hanger, all angles and height. Marilyn was tiny, but had curves. Not sure how she ended up as champion to 'normal-sized' women for some people - she had an unreal figure.

For reference, I am now a size 10/12. Sizing on clothes has changed. Significantly. Marilyn would be a size 2 today.

I think that mostly the preferred body for fashion has changed to a more boyish figure. (long legs, no curves). A "plus size model" just means a normal female body with tits and ass. And mass produced clothing has evolved to accomodate wheat bellies. I need a medium or small shirt at Target to be somewhat fitted thru the midriff, yet I can bust out the arms of an XXL. We are making clothes for weebles now.

I have noticed though more overweight people in television ads. LOL, I saw a commercial for a diabetes drug and could not help but yell at the screen, "try primal and lose 70 lbs."
