Beef, potatoes, broccoli, spinach, carrots, strawberries, asparagus, chicken, dairy, lettuces, eggs.

Forgot the why. Welp, I think this covers a broad spectrum of essentials for our body. These are things I eat on an every day basis and I think I could last on them forever. I would love to add in squash . . . but, I'm not that great at cooking it!

I'd breed (1) pigs and (2) chicken for meat and eggs.

    I'd also harvest my own home-grown (3) lettuce, (4) kale, (5) cabbage, (6) berries, and (7) tomatoes.

I'd also scavenge the shore for (8) seaweed and (9) shell/fish, and the land for (10) random whatever herbs.

    4.) Oranges
    5.) Kale
    6.) Grapes
7.) Chickens for eggs, not meat
    8.) Coconuts
    9.) Rice
    10.) Pineapples

Carrots and apples would be my other must-haves.

What we actually intend to own (rather than dreaming big):
    1-Hens.
    2-Rabbits.
    3-A goat/ewe or two.
    4-Potatoes.
    5-Peppers.
    6-Tomatoes.
    7-Apples.
    8-Parsnips.
    9-Blueberry.
    10-Carrots.

We'll also keep strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant bushes, a chestnut tree and a herb garden, with onions and garlic and stuff too!
I rarely talk to people about Paleo/Primal, but, when I do, it's when they're NOT complaining about their weight or health.

You see, I don't really "do" pity. And one thing I've learned about people is that they're more open to suggestion when they're happy and stable. When they complain they only ever want pity, not to be advised.

Self sufficient to me means that I have enough money to pay people to grow/catch my food while I enjoy city life. That said, my emphasis would be on growing/catching/raising:

-Cattle - some beef, some dairy
-Fowl - some meat, some eggs
-Pigs - apparently pig milk isn't yummy, so just meat
-Goats - some meat, but mostly to make goat milk cheese so awesome that I could sell it and become even more monetarily self-sufficient.
-Salmon, sardines, shellfish (I own a couple of fishing boats and can pay the crews)
    -Olives
    -Avocados
    -Blueberries

Why? Because the purity of my animal intake concerns me more than that of produce - I eat a ton of animal in comparison to produce - and because organic veggies are easy to find commercially. Olives and avocados because both the fruit and the oils are terrific and because US olive oil is often tainted. Blueberries because I love them and they pretty much require very little work for such a yummy plant.

    Potatoes would be #11, garlic/onions #s 12 & 13 - small root farm on the side.
