Phytoestrogens are in a lot of foods. Its probably best to steer clear of the most concentrated foods like soy but there is no way to avoid them entirely and you might not want to because they can actually have positive effects as well.

Avoiding xenoestrogens from chemicals would be a much better idea.

Methinks you'd have to be gnawing on a big ass sage stick for it to be a problem.

Garlic (and onions, leeks, etc) contain a lot of phytoestrogens as well. Flax seed oil is probably the best know source, second to birth control pills only. But...

The difference between soy and garlic/sage/onion/etc is that the first is considered as the main ingredient of a recipe for many people (read: vegetarians and vegans). Additionally, it is probably what they end up eating 3-4 times per day. The others are just spices, "flavor enhancers", so you just add some in your recipe: enough for the estrogens to have a beneficial effect (phytoestrogens are not 100% bad), still not enough to promote gynecomastia in men.

Though if you cook well with sage you might convice someone with a pair to come over and eat your food.
