Yeah, if you typed that whole original post without running to the bathroom to evacuate your gut from one end or the other, you don't have food poisoning.

It could have been your salad. It could also have been something coming in contact with the cutting board you set the raw chicken on.

I have had food poisoning. I gave it to myself. I used my pocket knife to cut open a cantaloupe. I ate some of it, then set the cantaloupe on the table in my hotel room. I came back a few hours later to have more cantaloupe. By the end of the day I was vomiting and diarrhea-ing for the next 48 hours. I basically had to lay in bed naked, visit the bathroom every half hour or so, take a shower after, get back in bed, repeat, repeat, repeat.

I've had food poisoning once (smoked salmon on Indonesian, rookie error) and it only took about 5 or so hour to present itself.

Yeah, if you aren't laying naked in the shower with stuff coming out of both ends it isn't food poisoning. Maybe just undercooked?

Well gosh, guys, I was trying to be discreet and share the gnarly details of it all!
Who knows, maybe I was in the loo typing at the same time! technology...
Anyway, it was on sale, and I'm guessing they put a sale price on it for a reason. Not gonna cheap out at an organic store anymore. NOT worth it.

Cierra - I have had more than my fair share of vomitting/diahorreah bugs over the last 15 or so years. Many of them weren't caused by food poisoning, and I only know this because everyone else ate the same food that I had, but I was the only one that got sick..... anyway they were different and we are working on the cause
..........................but I have had 4 definate bouts of food poisoning, (ministry of Health notified by Dr) where I ended up in hospital with a couple of them. These were all from restaurants where others also got really ill - anyhow your body is purging for a reason. It is expelling the bug, so vomitting and squirting need to happen. But you must replace those fluids, or you will end up very sick. In my experience gastroenteritus can take anywhere from a few hours to 24+ to develop.
Many years ago my Doctor said to me that when I was starting to keep foods down again, to try BRATT.
Bananas, rice, apples, tea and toast - just in small amounts at first ! I think that these foods have goodies in them to settle and re nourish. (bananas - potasium, rice - ?, apples can settle diahorreah or help with constipation, tea has tannins, and toast - ?)

IMO it is important to listen to your body, rehydrate and just rest.

    good luck

My one time was "The Exorcist Meets the ER," but there are milder cases. You should be okay if you can keep hydrated. If you think you're expelling more fluid than you can take in, or feel really dizzy, a doctor might be in order.

    Feel better!

You'd be surprised how easy it is for one person to get food-poisoning or just usual digestive discomfort from a meal everyone else was OK with.
The fiance, his mum, his nan and myself had a gammon dinner once, where we hadn't QUITE cooked the gammon through.
His mum had some bits of better-cooked gammon, egg and chips.
    His nan had the same.
He had some of the raw gammon, egg and chips.
I had raw gammon and egg.

He had discomfort and was put off his food and at the 'nearly-vomiting-stage' for over a day. Everyone else was fine and he'd eaten nothing I hadn't.
Reason: his mum and nan had the cooked gammon, my gut is used to raw meat and mild bacterial invasion. He was pushing his boundary a bit.

So, ja, it is very possible to get a bacterial infection from food that hasn't affected anyone else.

Perfection is entirely individual. Any philosophy or pursuit that encourages individuality has merit in that it frees people. Any that encourages shackles only has merit in that it shows you how wrong and desperate the human mind can get in its pursuit of truth.

I recently had food poisoning. Went with friends to a restaurant to hear a great live band. I ordered the mussels but knew almost instantly the chef in the kitchen didn't know what he was doing. In my bowl of mussels, there were 2-3 that were closed. Anyone who knows how to cook mussels KNOWS that you have to discard the unopened mussels as they are generally 'off'. Anyway, I was hungry so I had a few of the mussels and then pushed the rest aside. My hubby ate the same meal, but pushed his aside early, as well. We came home and went to bed, and about 3 or 4 am --- I thought I was going to die -- honestly ---- I was shaking uncontrollably, sweating like it was the worst crossfit workout out ---- with nasty business coming out of both ends (sorry, too much information). My stomach was in so much pain, that I woke up hubster and asked him to take me to the hospital. I didn't go to the hospital but I'l relaying this information, because that's how sick I was. It took me another 2 days before I could eat anything again. All I could get down was tea and water for the next 48 hours. I felt as though my body had been run over by a steam truck ---- really awful business.

thanx Kochin - I am sure it happens, but in my case the gastroenterologist and I are still unsure what has caused all my bouts, and it hasn't happened since I started eating this way - so yay for that. We are tending towards a sugar combo overload in my system???? The jury is still out - anyhoo staying hydrated makes a huge difference IMO so hopefully the op is feeling better.

"Feeling disgusting" isn't necessarily food poising. I've had it three times and it is VERY obvious when you have it. Uncontrollable vomiting, constant nausea, feeling dizzy, unable to stand up (hell, I spend most of my time on the bathroom floor in the fetal position!), can't keep anything down (not even water), etc.

    Basically, it's hell.
