Music + images = nostalgia for something I've never seen
Recently started watching Portlandia, and I love it. Weird thing is that when I watch the intro with the music and images of Portland, I feel super super nostalgic. I grew up in Hawaii, so no way I saw those types of buildings/people, though maybe I've caught a minute or two of music? Hypotheses?

The music plus the imagery is meant to invoke familiarity or nostalgia. May not be your history but it implies someone's history, therefore you empathize. You're probably just homesick and miss friends and/or family. Or perhaps longing for a connection to something familiar.
