Not until after 1 no. But he still fed many times a day.
I am thinking Zoe means sole, as in no formula or other milks. I am certain she wouldn't mean no food up until 8.

I have taken it as a sole food source. I am sure that Zoes will qualify this for us thou.
Anyway I am raping this poor mans thread which I never intended to do.
I had to use a breast pump for 5 weeks when our 9 week early baby was born, and it can diminish your supply, however with a good pump and the right attitude the op will do what is right for them.... good luck

G how long after your preemie was born were they able to attach? Just curious as had no experience with premature babies.
I gather once you were feeding them off you your supply sorted itself out?

The little 9 week early took about 4 weeks to latch, but at 3 lb birth weight, still too little. She fiddled around with the nipple for a week or two, but really established at 6 weeks. Once she was on properly it was all go, however 2 hourly feeds for the following year became a little tiring - I have to say !!!!!!!

I agree with others that supply will increase if demand increases (provided diet is healthy, etc.). Her body probably just thinks it's producing enough even though the two of you would like it to produce more! She'll have to pump more frequently OR figure out a way to breast feed to get the supply up. Most hospitals have free lactation consultants that can help with latching AND pumping. I would try that! I remember being concerned about my supply when I BF my son, but really the body catches up after just a couple days of increased demand.
I would not add formula... especially if you are both primal!
And I second the notion that breast milk will make up the primary caloric intake of a baby under 1. Of course you have to watch for their cues + give as many solid foods as their interested in, but I find that many babies are just playing & practice eating... no need to rush into it if baby isn't ready to eat a large quantity of solids.

Zach, you cannot make a child breastfeed.
My eldest willingly breastfed until 3 years 3 months. Weaning was easy, we talked about it, and told him we would stop now, he was ok with that.

Zach what makes you think that anyone long term breastfeeding makes a child do it? We DO follow their lead its why we let them stop when they are OK with it.

Read this again. Im saying a child would not want to drink only breastmilk for that long. He or she would wean themself long before 8. You might be able to give them supplemental breastmilk but Zoey said SOLELY breastmilk.
