My mother realizes that this logic is completely absurd, but she still plans on taking the medication. When I asked her why she would do that she said, "Because the doctor told me to."

Sometimes I really hate having taken the red pill, so to speak.
Will she entertain the theory of finding out what is causing her stomach troubles rather than treating the symptoms (with poison)? Perhaps she has a food intolerance?

She's been going to doctors for years trying to find the cause of the problems, which are rather chronic. A few years ago, one of her doctors even mentioned celiac, and she made a weak attempt at gluten-free, but then she was sent to a different "specialist" and no one has brought up a food intolerance again. I've tried telling her multiple times that I think the issue may lie somewhere in her diet and that she should talk to her doctor about exploring that, but she either argues with or ignores me.

It sounds like she's so sick and tired of it that taking the medication will do something, ANYTHING, to make her better. It's so hard to sit and watch your parents make bad decisions but alas, we can only be supportive until they come to it on their own, right? Best of luck with your mom and the medication. I hope something works!

    It just is...
Haven't had both in a while..
Confession: I did this a couple of weeks ago because a friend of mine baked a special gluten-free Black Forest cake for me and sent me home with a leftover slice. I ate it as a pre-gym breakfast with a cup of coffee, and I was quite happy.

Coworker 1: Nice tan, have you been on holiday?
Coworker 2: (before I could answer) Probably got jaundice from this "diet" he's on.
Me to coworker 1: From being outside a lot
Me to coworker 2: Jaundice from all that unprocessed food, fresh fruit and veg I eat? Go eat a mars bar chubby.
Do what you love and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. if you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching tv. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop, they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Some opportunities only come once, seize them.

Plus at some point they'll have run a story about carbs causing cancer. What with them thinking everything causes cancer.

Shawn M, I had my own moment when I truly realized what I was doing was permanent.

I ate Indian the other day and my lactose intolerance made itself known very quickly and then I spent a very miserable night because I had some naan with it and had flu like symptoms, joints aching and pain ALL NIGHT. A day of pain killers and no glutens or starches and I felt better. I have learned my lesson: wheat is bad!

Maybe you could suggest your Mom try Primal after you show her my post.
