I remember prior to primal I would do all my shopping at the grocery in the perimeter, except for the occasional pitstop in the middle aisle for a bag of tortilla chips(a healthy snack!). I would cook pretty much all of my evening meals. I was still fat though on account of all the starches/sugars I consumed as well as eating out for lunch everyday at work. Right before discovering primal I remember having internal discussions with myself on how I should start eating whole grains with my dinner, but didn't know why they were good for me. All I could remember is that someone on tv told me that they're good for me and that I should eat them.

Oh, man, Hardwarehank, I've been there too. Whole grains seem to be a sticking point for a lot of people. "Ok, ok, I can understand how saturated fat may be benign, and I can even accept that beans aren't all that great for you...but surely whole grains are healthy, right? Right? They've got folic acid! And vitamin E!"

I see that you're up in Eagan, too! I'm going to college in Mankato, though I'm going elsewhere after this semester wraps up.

Lol, one time my friend couldn't figure out anything to say about what grains had that were so good for you, so her answer was "protein!" Facepalm >_<

hahaha, the Quorn products are actually very tasty. the burgers kinda taste like cafeteria burgers from my youth, but were better than the other crappy ones. the chicken products were particularly good, but that's kind of creepy if you think about it

and now here's some CW for ya, this is part of the reason I don't read magazines anymore: nothing but garbage

    THIS!!!

I'm so tired of REALLY unhealthy people telling me I can't possibly be healthy without all that fiber. Seriously? How's it working for you???

My younger son is going to be moving back in so he can go to college in August. He freaked out when I told him I don't eat wheat anymore.

"But! What about bread! And pasta!"
    Yeah, I don't eat them.
"But! I'm a long distance runner! How am I going to get my carbs???"
Well, there's vegetables and fruit and...
    "Fruit has carbs?"

So a big Thank You to the local school system where my ex-husband lives.
The same school system that asked my ex to be on the school board, despite the fact that he's functionally illiterate.

something I thought of that's bugged me:

my mom has a friend who has a young daughter. the girl had a habit of often walking on her tip-toes. my mom was telling me that someday, she's going to need surgery to "lengthen" her calf muscles if she keeps walking on her toes like that. In my head I was like "why not just teach her how to stretch out her calves at the end of the day??" or something?? surgery???? on a 7 year old because she walks on her toes?

Some days I just cry for the future of our world as people of all ages are now so freakin conditioned to follow the commands of corporate advertising... THEY'RE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING, PEOPLE ~~ OF COURSE THEY'RE GONNA MAKE IT SOUND FABULOUS!!

    Back on topic:
Co-worker is complaining how doesn't have enough time in the day to get enough (1500 mg) calcium taken. She heard that you're not supposed to take more than 500 mg at a time or it's wasted, and you HAVE to take it with your vit D or it's wasted, and you can't take it too close to a meal or it's wasted because the meal has it's own, and you can't take it right when you get up because your stomach isn't ready for it yet and it's wasted...... I wanted to just say "you know what's really wasted? ~~YOUR MONEY!! A serving or two good leafy green veggie will take care of your calcium reqs for the day without making you crazy!"
Sadly, this particular beotch happens to be the epitome of a CW target audience devotee.

    Now 214 -- that's 60 lbs!
Goal 160 lbs -- last time there was in junior high!

I've found that a lot of children who walk on toes have nervous system things going on that stem from gut dysbiosis. It usually goes along with "psychological" disorders, ranging the gamut from SID to bipolar, and GAPS could be very helpful.

Really? I've been a habitual toe-walker for many years; do you have any references for this?
