I had a moment in university class today:

There's this VERY petite girl in my class, very thin and looks in good health. I see her browsing the Dr. Oz website quite often, and I get the gist that she tries to take care of her health.

This morning, she comes to class looking positively worn out. Dark circles, pale blotchy face, and just not right. She then told us how she just started a 'master cleanse' diet a couple days ago. AKA, eat nothing but maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne pepper to remove 'toxins'. Apparently she's going to live off those three substances for the next two weeks.

    *sigh*

I tried that once. I lasted about 3/4 of the way through the day and then, while at work (low volume coffee shop. Totally not hectic or anything.), I suddenly got flushed and nauseous and light headed and HAD to sit down or I was gonna pass out. (keep in mind that I pretty frequently, even pre primal, might not get around to eating all day just because I was busy) I HAD to eat something. I literally sat on the floor behind the counter and ate a muffin (i.e. cupcake due to lots of sugar in those things) the size of my face and feeling like hell until it kicked in. That was the end of the master cleanse for me but I did get to drink tons of lemonade that week since I had all those lemons to use up!

DH's cousin's wife today at Thanksgiving get-together: "We've been doing the gluten-free, low sugar, whole foods thing too!"
Me: "So, you've been avoiding grains, legumes, most dairy and all processed foods too.... and eating meats, good fats and veggies, huh?"
Her: "...avoiding legumes? You mean beans? No, that makes up the bulk of our protein!"
    Me: "Do you eat soy?"
Her: " Oh yes! I've heard it's really good for us peri-menopausal women!"
    Me: *face meeting palm--hard*
    Started 7/5/11 at 274 lbs

Overheard at LA Fitness, from a trainer talking to someone doing bodyweight squats: "Don't go past parallel, you'll mess up your knees."

I promptly laughed openly at the trainer.
Are you a college student, trying to navigate college while being Primal? Do you know any other PB college students on a tight budget? Heck, for that matter, are YOU trying to live Primal on a budget? Enroll at Primal University!

You should've banged out a couple sets right there. Show 'em what a real squat looks like.

Told him about the fact that stopping right around parallel (or a bit before) actually is the most dangerous place to stop for knee health owing to the lack of stability.

    Naturally, he didn't believe me.

Mom just told me not to give our dog more than a tiny piece of ham because she has the runs. Why does the dog have the runs? Because mom gave her mac n cheese yesterday.

Holy actual fucking shit at the conversation I have just had.

Friend: Ugh, I need to eat something healthy, all I've had today is popcorn and chocolate. Well the subway I had earlier was healthy.
    Me: Subway is not healthy.
F: Yes it is. It's like veggies and bread. The only bad thing for you in it is meat.
M: Bread is one of the most poisonous things you can eat.
F: No it's not. A subway is like 10x healthier for you than a burger and fries.

    OH MY WORD. WTF?

Apparently my suggestion to just take the burger out of the bread bun is stupid...
