"Die-it"... ha! Can't believe I never noticed that irony.

And then he and the other person will discuss other "diets" he really knows nothing about because he's always been skinny (I call it "gaunt") and hasn't yet had any chronic health issues or had any reason to change his eating habits. Annoys the crap outta me. Now I just don't talk about it if he's around, which is hard because he's around a lot.
I had a friend who was giving me the skeptic's look over a dinner where I ordered gluten-free pizza. Yes, yes, not really paleo, but I wanted pizza, and I didn't want to eat gluten. What swayed him (after he ate a slice of my pizza) was the Robb Wolf argument: "Have you tried it for 30 days?" He couldn't argue with that, so he DID try it, and he's now lost 20+ lbs and doing great. I just gave him some GF cookies and him, his wife, and my husband regularly get together to have paleo meals. True story.

If you want to actually stomp on him verbally, than bone up on the science. I'm fairly well-read on the matter of diets, and I can more or less stomp on any argument if I choose to.

But I usually don't choose to. Most people don't want to hear it, and if you start babbling about diets too much you sound no better than a fundie wanting to convert everyone to your cool thing.

That said, if there's a discussion going on, and I'm hearing bullshit, I'll call the person on it. I don't sugarcoat (oh, wait, I'm primal -- I should say "honeycoat") and I tell them when I think something (like the "Blood Type Diet") is bunk. But I must reiterate: I don't do this unless I perceive someone actually wants to discuss it. And I don't always use that moment to talk about how awesome paleomal has been for me. I let my cholesterol results and body shape do that.

And honestly, I think subversive is the way to go. Be the change blah blah blah. Alternately, take yummy photos of your food:
But what do you eat? - a set on Flickr

That's what that photo set is for. And it feeds into my Facebook status every time I update it....

(Reposted from "Frustrations" thread...fits better here!)

At the folk's house on Sunday:
Me "I've learned that if I'm gonna have potatoes, I need to avoid any green-skinned ones"
(Usually intelligent) Mom "Why, 'cause they're not ripe?"

    LMAO
    Started 7/5/11 at 274 lbs
    Now 214 -- that's 60 lbs!
Goal 160 lbs -- last time there was in junior high!

My job had a bake sale to help diabetes research.

I don't even know what to say to that. I donated 5 dollars and told them I didn't want anything. They tried to force me to take a few items. It was mostly baked bread, cookies, cupcakes, and cake.

Had an "Support your AHA sale." Nothing was heart healthy. Everything was wheat. I don't even want to donate money to the AHA in general.

    Seriously. It's stupid.

This morning was "free coffee and donuts" morning, which happens once a month in my work building (apparently so that everyone in the building can get to know each other). I bypassed the event, I'm not a great fan of donuts and eugh the sugar + following insulin spike
