My sorely neglected blog - http://ThatWriterBroad.com
I heard on the news yesterday that more and more Americans are cutting back on prescriptions and medical visits due to their financial situation and how horrible this is omigawd and my first thought was "is that really such a BAD thing?" I suppose it is if someone absolutely must have rx meds to live, but hopefully this gives the overmedicated ones a chance to see that they really don't need the majority of that crap.
I wish more people could understand that diet is the best medicine of all.
2011 - The year I went Primal
Start weight: 198 / Waist: 32"
CW: 158.5 / Waist: 28"
Supplements: Calcium and O-3 in AM. Natural Calm, Valerian Root Extract and sublingual Melatonin in PM (for lifelong chronic insomnia).
My Dad and his wife go on the 'master cleanse' program about 3x a year for 21 days. (For those unfamiliar, it involves nothing but water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and tree syrup for the duration of the cleanse. No food) This is to help clean themselves of the toxins and weight they've accumulated between cleanses. (They eat organically but when you're making food from Mario Batali and Ina Garten..... neither of whom are known for the svelte figures...... this crap happens)
Me: You know, you could just....... eat better.
Them: We enjoy the food we eat in between.
Me: But do you enjoy 63 days a year of not eating at all and gagging this stuff down?
Them: (Crickets chirping) Well, no, but it works.
Very insightful and so true. The myth that life's challenges require consumer solutions is one of the biggest obstacles to taking control of our health. Accepting that the solutions lie within ourselves takes uncommon insight, social courage, and the integrity to admit that we were wrong for many years.
After I'd won our office's "Biggest Loser" contest today (see Share a Triumph thread), I had no less than 3 people come up and tell me that I could now have one of the cupcakes in the break room.... like I'd been doing all of this just for the contest!

As for CW moments and people blaming "metabolism" for body changes... in a way this makes me glad I was overweight to start with. That way when I finish losing weight and people start whipping out the "oh you're so lucky, your metabolism" excuse, I can just say "No, it's because I'm doing things differently now. If it were just my magical metabolism, I would've been skinny all along."
"Trust me, you will soon enter a magical land full of delicious steakflowers, with butterbacons fluttering around over the extremely rompable grass and hillsides."
