Not sure if this belongs here - do we have a 'health and safety stuff drives me spare' thread?
At the railway station... looking up the stairs. There is a message on the riser of each stair: big yellow notices warning 'Caution! Do not run!' alternate with blue ones helpfully pointing to 'customer lifts', all the way up the first flight. I wish I had a photo to show you of the face-full of warnings and arrows that confronts you before you start climbing - if you're sure you want to risk it...
(In related news, anyone else amused to find themselves always the only one going up the stairs when there's an escalator available?)

Ma called. We were talking & she said "Oh! So I saw this panel of doctors on TV that said going gluten free will kill you."
Me: "Wha--?"
Ma: "Yeah, all those boxes and stuff at the store labeled gluten free aren't always really gluten free, and will make you sick, so you have to eat gluten to stay healthy."
Me: "I don't buy that stuff. I just avoid grains... and what about all those poor people with Celiacs? They'll die if they even LOOK at gluten."
Ma: "Well these doctors said everyone else has to eat gluten or they'll get sick."
Ooookay. Tell it to my awesome blood sugar and my 3yo who hasn't had a cold since going Primal (although she did catch a virus, but I think that's a little more excusable)

FOOD PORN BLOG! http://theprimaljunkfoodie.blogspot.com
Yeah, it drives me nuts. I was on another site and the person was going to try going gluten-free to see if her skin condition got better. A person with celiac disagreed, saying they needed to keep eating gluten so that the doctor could test them and make sure it really was a problem, saying that ditching the gluten could cause problems!
Seriously, why not trying just ditching the gluten. Feel better? Then keep doing it. No copay, no doctor visit, no time off from work. Easy-peasy.
My sorely neglected blog - http://ThatWriterBroad.com
Hardest thing about that is that some doctors are jerks and won't believe you without a test. This can be a problem if they want to prescribe you something that contains gluten or particularly if you are hospitalized and they prescribe a specific diet. Hospitals are dangerous places for people with formally undiagnosed allergies or celiac, without a note in the chart a lot of the staff will totally dismiss a patient's statements about these things, assuming the person is just being troublesome. Particularly if the person is elderly (even just over 50), on any sort of mood-altering medications (including antidepressants or sleep aids) or has even the slightest fever. Even if you're in a coma you're at risk, some tube-feeding products contain gluten.
I keep a note in my wallet that states that I'm celiac and lists my current medications and emergency contact info. My contact is my mom but I included her credentials as an MD because I want to be sure they listen if she tells them I've got celiac, even though none of my medical records will show testing for it.
I've got one for y'all.
My boss to the caterer: "I like the potato salad the way you do it. You use Italian dressing or something instead of mayo. It's healthier that way."
She's not a stupid woman; in fact she's quite savvy about many things in life. But she's been so indoctrinated by the media that "mayo is unhealthy" that she doesn't realize that it has basically the exact same ingredients as Italian dressing (plus eggs, which I'm pretty sure she wasn't talking about). It's possible she was asking him to use low-fat Italian, which is less funny but also sadder.
I used to be the same way until I began thinking about what my food was made of. I thought Ranch dressing was the be-all end-all of food that was bad for you, but Italian dressing was fine.
so were my sweet potato tater tots, i was sad

More of a sad moment than a funny moment: an expecting mother on another forum I frequent posted in the "Mom" section to ask about how other vegan moms have raised their kids to be vegan.
I died inside on behalf of that poor child.
