Cardio should be balanced with strength building excercises.

Except that Tracy Anderson shit. THAT is one workout that I can DEFINITELY say is not as good as mine.![]()
My fitness blog: Girly Pushups
I welcome Zumba, pilates, jazzercise or whatever "fitness-trend" that keep as many unserious people away from the squat-rack and the free weights as possible! Fat middle aged out of shape woman in ridiculous Rosa thighs that cannot do a single push-up on their knees even if their lives depended upon it, will be far better off by staying away from the bench press and do some bodyweight exercises instead. Or they can go and do this:

I dance Zumba to my heart's content. Don't tell me Zumba is nothing. I do it high and plyo-like, and jogging between songs. With my kid. My calves feel it more than calf rises. Yes, I did calf rises back when I did Ultimate Diet 2.0 workouts. 4x a week...
I also lift 3x a week. A combo from 4 Hour body of Max and Failure on 5 main lifts.
Swing kettle bells.
Jump rope.
Swim.
X-Country ski in the winter.
Skate in the winter and roller-blade in the summer.
Run & run sprints in the summer.
Carry my 50 to 60 lbs kid and belay her up the climbing wall.
Sometimes I put on a DVD with a kick-boxing workout.
I stretch - too inflexible to call it yoga.
I also walk whenever I can, which is basically every day.
I stand in the office.
Whenever I am travelling or has no better idea I would run a HIT on an elliptical.
And I dug in my garden for years, moving sod and soil...
Sometimes I take sleeping, gorging and resting over any form of anything.
I think I tried learning boxing too, along with belly dancing. Did step. Even taught a few classes.
I dunno why a post about accepting other people's ways of moving starts and keeps on with the dissing? Moving is good, feeling your body dance, lift, swim, swing, rest - all good, all great, all wonderful.
And if you have never tried Zumba, I dare you to get a class with a truly great dancer, and let go of your prejudices, let your hair down and you might just have fun. It's as Primal as can be, particularly if the dancer does a mix of tribal, urban and latin. It's f'ing FUN. Last year our rec center had Zumba on the parking lot with like 9 dancers leading for charity, it was a total hoot.
