I searched for this topic, since the sisters hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2001, and couldn't find a mention. This is very interesting, as they hiked the whole AT, barefoot, then turned around and walked back!

They have written two books about their hike. "Southbound" and "Walking Home". I enjoyed them a lot!

But they didn't walk the whole AT barefoot. In winter they wore hiking shoes. But still impressive! I guess they would enjoy today's minimalist shoes and would have used them.
