Trying to put together an insulin index

    Primal Fuel
People on the MDA forum seem to have mixed opinions on the importance of monitoring insulin. However, for my own purposes, I like to have some idea of how insulinogenic some primal foods are.

I know, on one hand, that a serving of beef will stimulate insulin, but will ALSO stimulate glucagon which somewhat balances out the body's response. Does whey protein produce glucagon as well?

I'm most concerned, however, with non-meat fat sources. In terms of insulin response, where do coconut cream, heavy whipping cream, butter, and olive oil pan out, from least to most insulinogenic? I have read that butter/cream are actually LESS insulinogenic than olive oil... can anybody confirm?

I could help you with this! I'm on an insulin pump with a glucose sensor. If you like, I could post my food diary here along with pre and post meal glucose readings.

wow that would be amazing! excuse me if this is just my ignorance, though, but I thought insulin did not = blood glucose? or have I misunderstood something?

just saying I could tell you how certain foods spike my sugar. You were wondering about the insulin-o-genic factor of certain foods. So if I was going to have some cream with my breakfast, I could let you know my blood sugar prior to consumption and after. The insulin pump helps my body act like it has a healthy pancreas when I dose myself. Sometimes when my carbs are low enough for a meal and my sugar is steady, I don't dose. Would any of that info be useful to you?
