Yes, in fact it's pretty common, especially with cheese.

Yes, it could be the dairy. That's a common problem.
Also, how recently have you changed your diet? Often the digestive system needs time to adjust if there's been a radical change, and you don't need to eliminate foods so much as give it a little time.
Yep. Cheese in particular for me, it's the sodium, I believe.

Constipation with dairy is also one of the key signs of casein intolerance. If I have anything that's touched dairy I'm plugged up for weeks.
Dairy could indeed be the culprit but you might also want to take a look at your veggie consumption. If you are going overboard on the quantity and/or the fibrousness of them, that could be plugging you up too.
Not saying veggies are bad, it's just that, when kicking grains and other junk to the curb, some people go hog wild with the greenery to fill in.

Dairy clogs me instantly, except for raw milk and cheese made from it. Also, if I eat an amount of dairy that is smaller than what could physically block me up, it passes fine. So, yes. Oxidized, pasteurized fake dairy (what most stores carry and most stores use to make ice cream, etc.) is almost totally off limits for me! A small ice cream will go through, especially if I eat a couple of apples to load the cannon behind it.
So, based on my personal experience, try out raw milk products and smaller amounts!

Dairy can be constipating, but from what you've shared, I feel that your problems go far beyond dairy.
Thank you all!
There's no raw dairy available around here that I know of. Does Trader Joe's carry any? I'll hunt for it. There must be an actual live dairy cow around here somewhere.
Any references to casin intolerance?
I've lived with a dead bowel and severe constipation for 7 years. Now I have a very lively bowel and constipation is my LAST problem. Mark Sisson and you all are amazing.
