i really like drinking kombucha. it tastes good to me, and since i really dislike drinking water, i like sipping on it throughout the day. sort of my FU to soda. i know about it having some carbs... whatev, i don't care.
BUT i am nursing an 8 month old, and read some scare-tactic info that says no kombucha while nursing. i will ask doc at next week's visit, but for now...
what do you guys know about it?

I've not heard of anything in regards to kombucha and nursing. My friend makes and drinks it and she's still nursing. I've drank it when I was nursing my youngest. I don't know about your Dr., but I doubt most allopathic Dr.'s would know anything about kombucha, or diet in general for that matter.

I did research and decided to do it. I have been drinking about 16 ounces a day of homemade kombucha for the past 2.5 years all the while I have been nursing. Still drinking kombucha and still nursing!

I know at least four different breastfeeding moms who drink kombucha like it's going out of style. The warning was probably because it has a slight alcohol content, and some people are really skittish about ANY alcohol and nursing. But the amount is so slight, you're totally fine.

Do you make your own? It is possible to get some of the not-nice bacteria in there. However, that's true of any food. Booch just has the ickiness factor since so many home-brew.

I'd say if you make your own and you're experienced you're fine. If you get the bottled stuff the quality control will probably take care of you. Just don't OD on it.

I was thinking the no 'booch while bf'ing was from the slight alcohol content too.

Like our great-grandparents never slipped their offspring any liquor when they were babies... lol

awesome! i am an "everything in moderation" mommy, so i have no problem with the minute amount of alcohol. it will keep her quiet, right?
anyway, i'm an occasional wine drinker (when i know i'm off the hook for the night, nursing wise... so i see no big whoop.
    thanks guys and galz!
