So, I want to know, how many of you eat bacon on a daily basis? Egg? what else might you have for breaky?

what is the 80/20 rule? How does it apply on a weekly basis? 5 days good eating 2 days making mistakes??? please fill me in.

Also...anyone tell me what foods have Omega 6's in them? How can I reduce the 6's when I dislike seafood (high in Omega 3's)

    Thanks for the help!!!

Well I can answer a little bit of this. I don't eat bacon daily. I eat a little bit of bacon (2 strips or so) maybe once per week.

I eat eggs most days. Probably five days per week.

80/20 is just trying to eat according to whatever paradigm you're trying to follow (paleo/primal I presume) most of the time (80 percent) and allowing stuff that isn't strictly primal 20 percent of the time to make life a little more enjoyable and allow for some small treats and indulgences. The theory is that you will still achieve somewhat decent results and improved health by eating healthfully 80 percent of the time.

I don't think there's any set guideline for how to apply the 20 percent. I don't know anyone who says well I'm totally off primal on Tuesdays and Saturdays, those days represent my 20 percent and I eat whatever I want those days.

Some days I have a protein shake/smoothie, others I have leftovers from dinner, and some I don't eat breakfast at all. Depends on what I'm hungry for.
I eat bacon maybe once or twice a month.

I have eggs almost every morning, and 1 slice of bacon most mornings, 2 slices occasionally. I love eggs & bacon I either scramble them with veggies or make a sausage/veggie frittata. It works for me. I LIKE breakfast!

I don't even think about the 80/20 thing. I have an occasional beer, and if I visit home or we have a special dinner at church then I might (possibly) eat something I wouldn't otherwise. I feel too good when I don't cheat to do it very often. I guess I just save that up for when it can't be avoided without being rude or for a very special occasion - and THEN I don't allow myself to feel guilty about it.

    Bacon about once a week.

80/20...aim for 100% when cooking for yourself. The 20% is for when you eat out or food cooked by others when you don't have control over the ingredients. Make the best choices from whats available and accept that you wont be perfect all the time. I don't see the point in *planning* to cheat or eat crap 20% of the time or 20% of the ingredients. In fact, I don't see the point of cheating at all. Primal food is so freaking good! Cheating is for people on a diet. Don't be on a diet.

If you cut out industrial seed oils (and foods made with them) you'll probably eliminate most of the O6 in the SAD.

I eat eggs about 3 times a week.
I eat bacon about once a week - on days when I want to cook something else in bacon fat! About 3-4 slices and I usually eat the bacon as a snack rather than as part of breakfast.

Lately I've been either doing a late brekkie or skipping it entirely.

If 100% is my goal for every day and 65% is where I feel like I usually end up then 80% is probably what I'm hitting most of the time. I consider it a cushion or a safety net and don't plan my 20% out in advance.

For the Omegas, there are differences in fish, grassfed vs. grainfed, and variance in types of eggs. I just know to get the good stuff and don't worry about my macros too much. Mark has good threads on the omegas if you search for them.

Catrin, I sooooooooo agree with you. About liking breakfast. About eating eggs. And about not cheating on purpose, as Sandra in BC said, "Make the best choices from whats available and accept that you wont be perfect all the time. Grass fed beef and lamb are high in O-3 so if you don't eat fish or fish oil eat that.

I eat meat for breakfast often because I got tired of eggs. You can make the same kinds of "scrambles" with hamburger, chicken liver, sausage or whatever kind of meat. Sometimes I make a muffin of a banana or sweet potato, egg, almond butter, cocoa powder or pumpkin pie spice. Sometimes a persimmons mixed in goat yogurt.

20% is for mayonnaise or other stuff you can't control or for having a craft beer once in a while or for not being "that person" when you go out.

    Usual breakfast choices for me:

2-3 rashers of unsmoked thick cut dry cure bacon
2-3 Harrogate 97% sausages (that's 97% pork, people - the other 3% being herbs and seasoning)
    salmon fillet
2 pork belly strips (once a staple, not so often now)
    pork or lamb chop
    garlic mushrooms with endive shallots

All of the above fill me up for the day, kill cravings like a nuke and make it easier to make good food choices. I don't eat a single choice every day but I do eat the same thing on consecutive days simply on how they are packaged.

As for the 80/20 rule, I generally eat well the majority of the time so I can have the odd indulgent meal now and again.
