I haven't pooped naturally for 5 years. I use milk of Magnesia. Now that I'm kind of used to this diet, I take it once every 3 days. In between the occasional fingers that come out are yellow-brown and sometimes float, sometimes not. (I used to have to take the Milk of Magnesia daily because of the large amount of gas and bloating.) Once, on this diet, what came out was very cloudy. I hadn't seen that before, and not since.

Also, before starting the diet, during the night mucus would drain from my mouth and make a wet spot on my pillow. That has stopped.

I drink about 4-5 glasses of water or tea a day, not more because of bloating. Ive been taking 500 mg Magnesium for 3 weeks now. It doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm taking it to balance 600 mg Calcium (is that good)?

Coconut Oil sounded really good. I used 1 tsp to cook an egg. I felt bad the rest of the day and for 3 days I leaked Coconut Oil. I
don't think my body processes it.

My diet for a typical day (I'm 75 do I don't eat as much a I used to, and for exercise I walk about 30 min / day.)
Breakfast - 2 eggs with cheese, onions, tomatoes. 1 strip thick bacon, active-culture yogurt, 1 banana
Lunch - Salami, cheddar cheese, cooked greens, a fruit
Snack - Macadamia nuts, about 2 handsful
Dinner - Meat or fish, a root vegie, once a week a yam.

At the start of this diet I was so weak I could barely stand up. Today I went to the Grocery store alone (I was tired afterwards though - but not terribly.) The bad gas and bloating are 85% gone. At the beginning of the diet I stopped taking Zetia and Niacin (2000 mg). Long tern use of Zetia was eating my muscles, and Niacin can cause stomach problems. I'd rather die from high Cholerterol at this point.

I've asked for a refferal to a Naturopathy doctor in the area, and My GP has set up a consultation with my GI doctor. But I don't have a lot of hope for that.

TBH, looks like your on the right course. Seriously 5+ years of GI issues and barely being able to stand up.....only 7 weeks on Primal and you've seen the bolded positives already! That is actually quite excellent in my opinion. Sure your not 100% there yet, but if anything I think you've seen indicators that your on the right path. Keep it up! Try adding a variety of cultured items....just a little bit of them each day. Alternate kraut, yogurt, kefir, and other lacto-vegetables if you can. Its more about having a bit each day than it is about quantity though....do not overdo it! Add in some gut healing bone broth also....it has a ton of properties that aid in gut health. Like I said you sound like your on the right path....keep up the great work!

And you don't need a referral to go to a forward thinking health care practitioner. Just find one and make an appointment.

I was thinking this too. Sure the naturopath would agree too.

It sounds to me that you definitely have some imbalance in your gut happening.

The salami is bad news all round (processed meats contain nasties). You might want to try cutting the cheese out as well and see how that goes for you.

I would highly recommend making up some homemade broth and having a little with each meal. You can even sip it in between meals like a tea. This is very healing for the digestive tract!

Also another poster commented that you should add in some probiotic vege's - couldn't agree more! I see you're already getting some yoghurt - hopefully is hasn't been pasteurized (this kills the good bacteria!)

I used to suffer from constipation really bad for a long time so I know the pain your going through. I actually started a blog up over at http://realconstipatonremedies.com that you can check out!

Congratulations that 85% of your bloating/gas has gone! This is a great sign that you're heading in the right direction!

My GI hasn't mentioned Milk of Magnesia, and I suspect it's because he's trying to get me to avoid the 'laxative solution.'

For some reason, Miralax isn't considered a 'laxative.' GIs favor it because it supposedly doesn't have the negative effects of laxatives. My doctor thinks it can 'make' me regular--i.e., his advice is to use as much as needed to 'go,' keep that dosage for a few weeks, and then slowly taper off to see if I can then maintain on my own. I usually give up because I don't like the 'ooze,' but I'm getting desperate, and I may give this a longer trial.

Honestly though if your relying on medicare HMO to get you the best care possible your barking up the wrong tree. They will cover the bare minimum to keep you comfortable as you die. They have no interest in prolonging your life or enhancing your health.

Your going to likely have to pay out of pocket for any forward thinking health professional. Be it a MD/DO/DC/NP ect....that practices outside of the HMO box. Most of these practitioners decline being in HMO's because they don't want their diagnostic and treatment options dictated to them limiting their methods of practice.

I agree with Zach on this. My experience has been that my bowel movements are significantly reduced when I am lower carb Paleo, as soon as I increase carbs my bowel movements pick up. Health wise it probably doesn't matter as there is obviously less going through the system on a higher fat/protein diet, but I just feel better about my health when I'm going more frequently.
