Howdy all,
In a place called Temecula at the north end of San Diego County there is a place called Eden Tropics that does beef, lamb, and goat. All are grass fed/finished, totally organic (no antibiotics or hormones), raised right there, and halal butchered and processed.
Somebody posted about this a while back but the thread got lost somewhere.
They sell beef by the whole, half, or quarter cow as well as whole lambs and goats. Everything is cut up and packaged just like at the supermarket in meal sized trays. They also include all the trimmings, bones and organs. How cool is that?
Right now they are doing a holiday special combo pack of 1/4 cow+1/2 goat+1/2 lamb.
The amazing thing is how cheap this all is. When you get up into the larger sized orders like a whole cow, it works out to about $2/lb!
So, anybody in the LA/OC/SD areas who might be interested in going in splits on one of these, please let me know.
p.s.
Check out their website for more details.

Update on Eden Tropics. I wrote to them yesterday asking about the holiday combo pack they are selling of 1/4cow. 1/2goat. 1/2lamb and I recieved the following reply this morning (nothing like prompt attention to customers
Note the part where he talks about "50% net". So a 600lb cow for $1200 is more like $4/lb not the $2 that I had initially thought. I guess they must be talking about "on the hoof" weight there not "hanging" weight. My bad for misreading that. Even so, this is still considerably less expensive than my local meat CSA that charges $8/lb and Whole Paycheck which is over the top.Good morning Robin,
Thanks for your message and suggestions, we will certainly consider it to be available all year round.
Expect about 50% net. The cattle size used in this bundle is about 600 pounds (600 x 50% x 1/4 = 75), the goat is about 70 to 80 pounds, and the lamb is about 80 to 100 pounds. We give you everything, but when we split an animal in 4 equal shares, there is only one tongue and one tail for example, so we have to balance the divisions so that it is as fair as possible. You are also welcome to order an entire beef and split with friends, this way you can be assured to get 100% of everything.
You may need about 6 cubic feet of space as the meat is very well packaged and requires minimal space.
Thanks again and we look forward to your confirmation soon.
Best regards,
Tarek - EdenTropics.com
Since he says the combo pack only takes 6 cubic feet of storage space, I am thinking of getting one of those to sort of try the place out and as a solstice present to myself.
I will report back.

You still looking for someone to split this with you? I'm in SD and this sounds interesting.
Yay! Fellow SD Primal Peeps!
this is the link to the info about the holiday combo pack

If we split this down the middle we would each get 1/4 of a goat 1/4 of a lamb and 1/8 of a cow and it would be $300 each. That sounds perfect to me. Where in SD do you live? Would you be able to drive up with me? I think it would be interesting to see their operation first hand. It's rare that us urban dwellers actually get to go out and do the "Meet your meat " thing.

Definitely take the time to meat the farmer and visit the farm if you can. Priceless education, and they're usually good people.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the ... riverrun, past Eve and Adam's ...
I just picked up a cow from there yesterday! I knew I should have posted here to see if anyone was interested! I ordered a whole and barely fit it in my freezer. He offered goat, but having never tried it I declined. Glad I did as I wouldn't have had room. The awesome part is he let us pick fruit from some trees for free! I got tangerines, blood oranges, limes, and pummelos. He was great to deal with and I'm anxious to try it. The only thing we have a problem with is the bones aren't cut in small pieces. I messaged him and if we want to take the pile back he can get them cut for us. Hope it works out. I'll keep you in mind if we order again.
I live in the same county this place is at, it's about 30 minutes from my house
tell me if you feel this pain
Good to know. Thank you, Kim. I like both goat and lamb in addition to beef but I don't have a family to feed so this combo pack is a nice way to get the variety without needing a huge meat locker. Also good to know about specifying that the bones be cut. I will do this when I order.
