I've never understood why Quantum of Solace is so reviled.

Because it followed Casino Royale and sucked compared to it. At least for me.

I would rather see (new) Bond and read The Hobbit. The LOTR trilogy was fine, but it wasn't all that. Just a way to get through another 3 to 3.5 hours in a day without having to think.

I suppose Fleming has a good plain prose style, and I suppose any reasonably intelligent boy passing through an expensive English public school education in those days would have. (Ignorant of science possibly, but able to construe a sentence almost certainly.) As I remember, one can probably expect a reasonably interesting plot and some lively incident. There'll be some humour (more perhaps in the films than the books). That, I think, is probably about as far as the virtues go.

Don't think Fleming even wrote a book called Skyfall...

But I've liked both of the last 2 Bond movies, so I'll give it a whirl.
Also looking forward to The Hobbit as I enjoyed the move and even the old semi-animated move from the 80s (?).
