Just switched up part of my weight routine this week. I tried doing one set to failure on dead lift. Wow! (I've been doing variations of 5 - set routines, 3 weeks training, one week off.)
My 1 rep max is somewhere around 300 lb.
I could not go to failure. Using 185 lb. I did 5 second up, 5 second down reps and had to stop at 6 -- was breathing like I'd sprinted up a hill.
This was kind of a revelation about different strategies in lifting.
