Gods, if there was one thing, anything that i can eat and be full & happy on 1300-1500 calories a day & not crave anything else to the point of failure, I would eat it! So far I tried pure fats (coconut oil, macadamia nuts); high fat VLC (<30 g); green veggies and meats; paleo; and slow carbs. And my appetite & cravings for fruit are never curbed. Because of my blood sugar problems I am afraid to try all potatoes (and because I have an experience of eating 6 lbs of potatoes in one day, no problems).

But I think I am going to start later this week (after I finish eggs I brought to the office) and see how much I go through in one day. If my appetite keeps increasing after 2+ days & blood sugar goes wacky, I will stop. Anyone tried taking lemon juice during this diet to keep blood sugar from ups and downs?
I have found that salt and vinegar are extremely tasty on potatoes. Some have mentioned a sodium/potassium connection to the effectiveness of the potato diet, and there's this about vinegar:

A study published in 2005 in the "European Journal of Clinical Nutrition" showed that adding 1 to 2 tbsp. of vinegar to a meal containing the equivalent of 50 g of carbs from white bread resulted in lower blood sugar levels and lower insulin levels in the 2-hour period following the meal. The higher dose of vinegar resulted in the lowest blood sugar rise. In this study, researchers used white vinegar containing 6 percent acetic acid.

In 4 Hour Body Ferris says: vinegar, contrary to the expectations did not lower blood sugar (and he was drinking 3 tbsp of it!) while lemon juice, again, contrary to the expectations, did. Right now I am experimenting with drinking juice of 1/2 lemon before every meal. Call me crazy, but I really want to find something to keep blood sugar and appetite stable & improve my sleep. I am already taking magnesium and potassium citrates. I am adding melatonin next week. My stack of supplements is growing rapidly, as much as I hate it. I am not given to hypochondria, but i want to find out what works, and taking 5HTP & B for cramps showed me that sometimes supplements do work.

If it is a calorie reduced diet ( which it obviously is ), then all equivalent diets that supply the same net energy ( calories ) will work, with the caveat that they need to leave you somewhat sated so you can comply with the protocol.

You could eat yourself blue in the face with cabbage, cauliflower, strawberries, broccoli, or any one of a number of other things that you might actually enjoy. You might even muster the courage to add a pat of butter or throw in additional protein if your understanding of nutrition and experience with your own metabolism would indicate that it was called for.

If you find a high fat calorie restricted diet satiating, then you should eat that. Alternatively, eat a high protein calorie restricted diet, if that also fits the bill with respect to your hunger. Of course, if you attempt to suggest such blasphemy, you get excommunicated from the church of the potato.

I have no problem with folks eating a calorie reduced diet and losing weight. In fact, that is the only way to lose weight, deniers of fundamental thermodynamics notwithstanding. I would and do have a problem with folks eating a diet that is deficient nutritionally. I also have a really big problem with uncritical ritualistic acceptance of anything, whether related to diet or otherwise.

    Practical matter:

Still fine on just taters, but had a weird smell in my kitchen. Tracked it down, and it was from one of my potato bags. I think one of the potatoes in there contracted Potato Ebola--it was deflated and squishy like a balloon, and had leaked out foul-smelling liquid that looked like soapy dishwater. I threw that one away and washed/peeled the rest in the bag, even the ones that were wet from the goo. They smelled fine. I'm gonna eat them unless anyone on here is a Potato Scientist and tells me not to.

    Maybe today? We'll see!
I'm not sure, and this could just be a theory, but could it be from a result of chronic low-carbing, and now that you're spiking your blood glucose with >100g carbs without protein or fat to slow it down, your body is responding positively with lots of energy, just like how people who ate SAD first convert to veganism?

Of course, I understand your intent of doing this only short term, unlike people who become vegans for a number of years, but could that possibly be an explanation?

Very entertaining and educational to boot

I didnt get to weigh before I had my rice today, so I can hardly "weight" for tomorrow morning! It will be like Christmas!

Lunch was boiled tators with vinegar. First meal was rice and then a bit later, I had to have a little tator also.

Right before lunch, I thought to myself, "Self there's still a little homemade greek yogurt that needs to be used up, and a banana, and some nutbutter. What would that hurt?" But then I kept hearing this other voice in my head, (I think it was Otzi) Oh just eat some tators. So I did.

I am not drinking as much water today. But that could be for any number of reasons. Probably mostly because I wasnt home to, so I might make up for that as the day progresses. But Monday was 24 cups and yesterday was 17 cups (includes tea and little coffee)

I couldnt drink my tea yesterday though. Read some other blogs about brewing tea and correct temps, etc so I took one sip and decided that if I do not enjoy this bitter sh*t, dont drink it. Wait until I get some good stuff and figure out how to do it right.

Well! It could have been, but for the past year I've been doing about 200g of carb or more a day when
I learned that they weren't the devil, so I still have zero clue.

I did try the 30bananasAday thing (not just bananas), with fruit, for about two weeks once, and it was
HELLA easy to get in 3K cals a day, if not more. It was DELICIOUS, but expensive, so I had to abandon
    it.

I had energy pouring out of my ears, that's for sure.

And mysteriously, though I was hungry at 6:30 this morning, it's 11am now, and I'm not hungry at all? And
    I haven't eaten since 6pm last night.

You'd think that after a 600cal day, the next day, one would be starving, but I'm not.

Maybe it'll kick in later. Who knows.

    Potato+ Plus update:

I added in 0% cottage cheese and 99% lean turkey yesterday. I haven't been feeling well, but it's that time of the month and things are off with me anyway. I have been soooo hungry since starting this potato plus diet. But, then I realized that it's probably due to general low caloric intake. I felt like I should be fuller yesterday because by volume I ate a ton. But when I looked at my log, I had only eaten 800 calories in the past 24 hours; I have been doing light unintentional 14 hour IF. I had a super big dinner with over a pound of potatoes, turkey burgers, ketchup, etc. I was stuffed for over 12 hours.

    My favorite potato recipe:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F; line baking sheet with nonstick foil or Silpat sheet.

    Wash 3 lbs red, white, and purple baby potatoes;

Spread potatoes in single layer on baking sheet; sprinkle with salt while they are still wet

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until soft and lightly browned on bottom

They are delicious! Fun when they pop in your mouth and the creamy potato bursts out.

Be careful! They might explode under pressure in the oven. Had that happen last night, lol.
