Coconut oil becomes liquid at about 24 degrees Celsius. It will re-solidify when it gets colder.
They print an expiry date on the bottom of the jar on the Nutiva. The shelf life on coconut oil is very long, usually a couple of years.
Hi all-
My already opened Nutiva coconut oil liquified during my move to the new apartment. Is it still good? Also, how long does is last once its been opened? I've had this jar for awhile. I don't have central a/c so it can get hot in my house-- is there a better way to store it? Any coconut oil connoisseurs out there?

Thanks. I actually can't read the expiration date because it has faded. Will I know if it is unsafe to eat or should I just toss it? It tastes and smells fine to me but I've had this stuff for at least 18 months.

Meh, if it doesn't smell or taste rancid, it's likely fine. I'd use it up.

I live in a warm climate and the jar of CO makes a handy room thermometer. I know it is over 76 F if it is liquid. I have had jars go from solid to liquid and back many times with no ill effect.

It's fine if it smells/tastes fine. Coconut oil liquifies at 76 degrees. When I lived in Florida, my CO was always liquid. (AC was only set to MAYBE 80 on hot nights) But now back in the rainy state, it'll never be liquid on it's own again.![]()
Yeah... in summer mine is always pretty liquid. In winter it gets solid some. Not this weekend though.![]()

And that's why I'm here eating HFLC Primal/Paleo.
Mine goes liquid / half liquid / solid all the time - no harm done! It's going to be 39 degrees here in sunny Queensland tomorrow (over 102 Fahrenheit), so dont think it will go solid again for a while! Only problem is I seem to go through more when it is in liquid form lol
